BB had a decent deal on a GF 2 MX. I bought one, but for no real reason, since I don't game much at all and my V3 runs great. I guess it's just that upgrade itch thing going again 🙂
 
I just posted a question on that, whether ugprading from my Voodoo 3 would be worth it. It seems like you made a bad decision, do you know the difference in frame rates between the two ?

Hey same here! Sold my TNT2 on e bay, bought a Geforce2MX, and I haven't played computer games in 1/2 year ...

In fact, its been a week, and I haven't even have the urge to test it out ...

Install UT and Q3 and get out there and kick some a$$! There is a little gaming in all of us....why else would you have bought the new card?
 
well, I haven't even put it in my computer yet so I don't know how much faster it is than my V3 (no free time to install it!). I don't think it was a bad decision, it's just that I don't game much at all so I'm not really getting any benefits from upgrading. I do play UT for about 10-15 min most weekends. And maybe Diablo 2 for another 10-15 min for the said weekend. That's the extent of my gaming.

Mule, if I decide to keep the MX, I'll email you about the V3 🙂


 
If you don't do much gaming, you will miss the high quality 2D that the Voodoo 3 has. The V3 is also an excellent UT card.
 
i use the V3 as well and i am scared to upgrade for fear of losing my crisp text and general 2D beauty... i just got my 19in. samsung 900ift monitor about 6 months ago andwith the voodoo3 card i have NEVER seen better, sharper text display!! especially nice when reading through newsgroups and browsing the web!!

and gaming is very acceptable to me still... ok so i am still in 16 bit mode and small textures but hell im getting 80+ frames per second at 800x600 in normal mode in Q3 arena!!

im kinda holding out to see what 3dfx is going to pull out of their hat for their next "true" new 3d technology!
 
If you don't play games, why bother? A V3 is more than enough. I had a V3 up until this month and it was great! Now I have a G2 GTS. I noticed that i can go at those super high resoutions, but that about it. The 32 bit color doesn't help too much. 2D quality is the same (I have a Sony G200, i kow when it's different).
Man you guys are demented for not using your Geforces. I at least download all the demos and watched the splender. I don't play too much games, but now I have an excuse to bust out my UT, Q3, and Cataclysm.

BTW, try use the S3TC Texture compression hacks for your games, WOW things are so much more details! AND you get more framerates! Man has there ever been such a win-win situation?
 
ok... hows this... look at my system in my signature... I haven't played a game in probably 3-4 months on it, I haven't even turned it on for 3 days, all I ever do anymore on it is check e-mail, and some web browsing... pathetic huh? 2500 bucks to collect dust

For your CPU part, you could always plunge in and join RC5 for Anandtech. But the rest of your components are pretty good! hmm

I upgraded my ole TNT2 Ultra(lasted a good year) to an Asus Geforce MX recently. I am happy with my upgrade. Now I can run all my games smooth in Win2K. I bearly play games anymore but I am planning on playing Tribes2 a lot. I haven't upgraded anything in over a year, so I think it pretty justified.
 
I just upgraded because as of right now I can still sell my TNT2 on e bay for a good price. I only had to add $30 for a GF2MX if I really wanted to (but I didn't ... went for the more expensive ASUS w/ TV).

That's my upgrade motto ... sell it before its worthless.
 
urgh, can't get the MX to work w/o crashing Q3 in win2k. Apparently, the MX and the BP6 don't get along well. Any known fixes? If not, I'll just take the MX back 😛

They supposedly have rock a$$ 2D and they are almost as fast as a GTS.

I think I get my Radeon tommorow (I got a note on my door from Purolator today) I'll let you know how the 2D is 🙂
 
I sold my TNT Ultra card and bought a Radeon 32DDR. So far I am satify. I don't play game much, but I notice the improve video quality.
