It's truly vile. I've been spoiled with the starbucks beans for too long, thought I'd try an "economy" coffee. It doesn't even taste like coffee at all, more like triumph the insult comic sauce. :p

What's a good coffee grind/bean that's not overpriced like starbucks?

It seems like Starbucks to Albertson's brand is an odd way to go. Why not try something in the middle?

Yeah, the store brand coffee is always nasty. I'm lucky here because there's a local bean place the store carries that's good but cheaper than starbucks. The other brand that's not too bad is Millstone, but they might not have it where you are.

I wanted to see just how deep the rabbit hole went. I think I found the bottom. :)

Starbucks beans really aren't all that great. You're in Cali, right? Don't you have some local roasters?

We've got a peets, I don't know if you'd call them a "local roaster." Finding good tasting coffee is deceivingly complex.

Are any of the costco brands good? I know they carry Starbucks but it's french roast. I don't like the french roast. :(

Cafe Du Monde is the best. If it doesn't have chickory in it, it can't be good coffee.

As a rule, you get what you pay for. A pound of a good quality coffee is cheap around 25 to 50 cents per cup.

Costco has a good variety of stuff here. While it isn't great, it's probably as good as Starbucks brand, but it's fresh roasted (get it straight out of the roaster). There's a lot better out there, but for $2.50/lb, you can't complain.

Starbucks beans are crap compared to a good local roaster.

I wish I could get Peet's coffee around here, really good stuff, but difficult to find someone to bring it to my house. :D

Hm? Albertson's coffee... that was pretty brave. How about trying Sanka instant coffee next? I hear that's what they serve in prison. :p
