Didn't I just read this a few days ago? Was it here or somewhere else?

Someone pointed out it isn't an ebay story, they claimed it was from Russia and was a result of an insider stealing the innards of the thing and replacing it with a brick, which was only discovered when it was taken for repair.

Sounds plausible. It does look like the news paper pictured is Russian.

ok, but for the seller, why put a brick in it, that just raises the shipping cost. Any empty UPS would have been no different in teh end, except they may have plausable deniability of any shenagans and could plead ignorance. With a brick, that's just flat out guilty.

I kinda agree. And even to a greater extent, why ship anything at all at that point?

Hey! That's MY brick. Someone took it. Send it back to me.

(There, now to find 4000 more threads like this. I have plans for expanding the patio. Then again, my mailman will kill me.)

They send it so they can say they sent something and have a record of it.
It doesnt matter to Paypal or eBay that it was non-functional, just that the buyer was sent something.
It's why I've only used eBay once in the past year.

The only good thing to use bricks for in the mail is when sending then in the cases the "sell your gold" send you and they end up paying the shipping cost.

For a moment, I was confused why the OP says bad UPS when it's eBay[the seller] who screwed him then I realized it was a power supply the OP was referring to. :hmm:
