Hey guys.
I was taking my standard heatsink off my Asus A8V motherboard, and the CPU came off attached to the Heatsink. 2 things. In the future, is their a way to stop this from happening?

Also, I bent a pin or 2 in the process. I managed to bend them back, and when I put it back in, the PC worked, but then on the next boot, it didnt and I had to wait a while for it to work again.

It seems to be working pretty solidly now, but is it possible that I might have problems in the future because of this bent pin?

Any help appreciated.
Thanks

As long as you didn't brake any pins it should be fine.

As for keeping it from happening again. I asume your using an A64 cpu? If so, don't cover the whole heatspreader with Artic Silver. You relly only need a little in the middle which is where the core is.

I always try to slide a heatsink off, works well with either P4 or A64, that way you get if you need exert a bit of pressure on the heat spreader when you take the Heat Sink off.

When I take off my hsf, I first run prime95 for a little while to get the chip hot then when taking off the hsf I twist it while pulling it upward.

yeah, i've had problems too of pulling out my cpu with the hsf.

but bw86 brings up an excellent way of removing it... heat it up then twist while pulling up. i also try moving the hsf back and forth (the tiny space there is to move it back and forth) then apply pressure and pull up.
