Yup. Always been damned afraid of those things.
The instructions on the back of the box were more than adequate to get me started though!

Just Added a coaxial digital audio port to my Xbox.

That'll solve the temporary problem of not having enough optical in ports on my receiver :)

Soldering is actually pretty damn easy. Maybe I'll try modding my PS2 next. :D

WEEEEEEE......You just violated your factory warrenty. Better hope it doesn't break due to your "skills".

That saves money too, optical cords cost an arm and a leg compared to coax.

Nice.

Way to go. I always think it's cool when someone does something like this by modifying something. All it takes is a will, and some playing around.

lol if your not concerned with audio quality, y not just use a cheap optical cable that cost like $5 opposed to a nicer monster cable one that would cost a fortune.

He only soldered the breakout box that you connect between the XBox and Receiver, it's an external component that you hook onto your xbox - and can buy another one when it breaks.

That makes no sense. $5 optical cable == $50 monster XP Pro Super l337 optical cable. Light pulses are light pulses.

i was trying to say, whats the point in adding a coaxial output, which im guessing is lower quality then optical, when u can get a cheap generic optical cable instead. i think his whole reason for installing the addon is because optical cables were to expensive, which doesn't make any sense to me because im sure u can easily get a cheap one for under $19.

edit: bah...nevermind, i didn't read close enough "That'll solve the temporary problem of not having enough optical in ports on my receiver "

Coaxial digital == toslink optical
It's just a method of digital audio transmission - 1's and 0's.
Coax is more durable and cheaper, but optical is less susceptible to interference and can have more than twice the run length.
