My first venture into the high end graphics card market began with the TNT2 Ultra which I paid a pretty penny for when it was new, I rode Nivdia until the ATI 8500 came out and I have been an ATI card nut
ever since.
ATI threw Nvidia a curve ball with the release of the R300, I have a feeling that the scare Nivida received will be fruitful in the form of the chip know at the Geforce FX...its time to switch back again. See you in a few years ATI, I look forward to our future meetings, meanwhile me and Nvidia have some catching up to do. :)

Benches show that GeForce FX ain't all that hot and it actually has LESS bandwidth that the 9700 Pro so bandwidth starved games/apps are going to start bitchin' at the FX. Even so, FX isn't going to be here until february at the EARLIEST.

By then you should be able to pick up a 9700 Pro for a reasonable price and get an R350...but we shall wait and see...

Huh? Translates for me to:

Dear Diary:
I have no general hardware topic to question, but really feel like writing something there tonight. Think I'll go over and post about my feelings regarding ATI and nVidia and express my love for a product which doesn't even exist yet. There's really no point to it, but people will read it and that'll bring me warm feelings and smiley faces. :)

Don't worry, you'll change your mind once the card is actually out, especially if it goes for $500 like some places are reporting. This could be a bigger fiasco than Parhelia. Ok, maybe not Parhelia, but you know what I mean.

No its not going to be $500, a few rumors got out that it was going to be high but I doubt it will be over $399 .....maybe $450 tops.

True, who knows, it's not like anyone is gonna be able to buy one till March. Don't bet on getting one sooner than that. You obviously have money to blow, I just hope you play something more graphically intensive than Counter-strike.

I definately don't have money to blow , I can swing $399 but if its higher then I will have to hold off , I supposed if the 9700 Pro dropped to like $199 then I might have to go that route..I would be happy with that as well.

There is one other thing that I have though about, since ATI put out the R300 chip Nvidia probably has 20 or more samples of their products for testing......they know exactly what they face. They have a good idea of what their new chip does and they probably have already made some predicitons of what will happen , what they might like to happen etc.

I would also guess that they have pushed several R300 boards as hard as they would go and probably know what its limits are.
I know the R300 is not working as hard as it could be on the 9700 Pro cards, there is room for a faster R300 card.

I will have to wait for the first reviews of the FX cards but one of the main things I am going to look for is overclocking ability, if they easily overclock with stock cooling then that means they are not using every drop of the chip's performance like with ATI and the R300.

Its going to come down to wether or not I think Nvidia is making a conservative card or taking the NV30 and pushing it to its very end to beat the R300..........if the later is the case then it would make no sense to but the FX card.

funny sheet!

i just bought two Radeon 9500 128mb's.... i'll be softhacking these into 9700's ones going into a P42400 and the other is going to a XP2400/shuttle XPC.

i don't doubt the GF-FX will take back the speed crown... i just think the 9500 128mb/softhack is to goood a deal to pass up.

I can't help it , I guess I am easily bought with an aggressive marketing campaign, wait a second...I guess it just takes a pretty green fairy to do the trick. :)
