I bought my car in April and it was the first time I bought a car myself... the guy had lots of modifications on the car and probably raced with it too... anyways, i looked up on carfax before I bought the car and it didnt have any record of accidents or anything so I thought the car would be in good condition. So I went out, test drove it and bought the car. Today I went to a shop to get my state inspection renewed and I just realized I got screwed... the car has a lot of broken parts, one of the headlights needs to be replaced, low steering power, wheel bearing and etc. are the reasons that car wouldn't pass the inspection... and when i learned how much it was going to cost, I was about to cry... :(

Headlights - anywhere between $200 to $400
Low Steering Power - anywhere between $48 to $500
Wheel Bearing - anywhere between $150 to $1000

:( I am plain stupid, I should have gone to a mechanic before I bought it... now I am stuck wondering what I am going to do.... I might even have to sell my PC to get this stuff done :(

My parents paid for my car, so now I don't know what I am going to tell them... I am sure my parents will pay for it but I don't it... I need to start working somewhere to pay for my stupidity...

just wanted to let you ATOTers now i am stupid :(

and if you pay those prices, the mechanic is screwing you too, but hey maybe he will kiss you after he is done ;)

Headlights should be cheap.

$10-$15

Wheel bearings are a easy fix, and cheap if you do it yourself.

$20-$30

Power steering.
Go to a junk yard and buy a used pump.

$30-$40

Buy a manual and do the work yourself.

Fix the headlights yourself, then try another inspection site.

For a headlight? Try $20

Low Steering Power - anywhere between $48 to $500
Dunno about this but does it just need power steering fluid?

Wheel Bearing - anywhere between $150 to $1000
Seems high for a bearing? I'm not a mechanic but you can get a new wheel for $150.

Thank you all :) It's so nice to get so many replies from you all real quick :) I am not gay but I love this forum and all of you. I guess I was being a stupid young kid when I saw how the car looked and thought driving such a nice looking car would be nice... I guess that doesnt mean anything when you cant pass the inspection and can't drive :(

I am definetly taking my next car to a mechanic before I buy it...

Thanks for the information about prices all, I guess I'll have to take my car to a couple of other mechanics to get prices... I dont know if I should talk to my parents about this? Because they paid for the car, they have to know about it, but I dont want them to get pissed or anything... :(

What I mean by headlights is the whole left headlight unit is broken, he showed it to me, it's all taped so it wont fall off... i dunno...
about the power steering, yeah he said the power steering fluid was leaking, he said it might be as cheap as $48 but it can go as high as $500 to fix it...

and about steering bearing, I know that sounds definetly high, maybe this guy really is trying to screw me :(

get the cheapest things and try to do whatever you can or find a cheap mechanic. It should not be a problem.
And you are not stupid. it happens to everyone

yeah i really like how the car drives and etc. but it just has too many flaws i guess :( it's a very nice car except the fact that it can't even pass the state inspection. they put that big "rejected" sticker to my windshield, and told me to garage it until monday when i take it there.... :( it just sucks :( i have a car and can't drive it...

about the overwhelming thing, you are right, i guess my age and passion about cars along with this being my first car, led me to the wrong way...

as you said, i will have to chalk it up to one of life's lessons :(

a wheel bearing is not hard to replace. Go to a junkyard and get a used headlight. What is leaking in the steering? I replaced the entire power steering of my Jeep for $150, including resevoir, pump, pulley, and steering box.
