<< Bozo..Why did you leave? Did you like it? What did you do. Sorry bout all the q's >>
Well, each component is run like an independent company so things differ from division to division. I really enjoyed it until the last year - they really got into their quality initiatives, etc., and many managers went overboard with it trying to look good to their bosses. It got to where all that really mattered on your performance review was the number of quality classes you attended, the number of quality projects you participated in or led, etc. Seemed like they didn't really care about how well you did your job, just though you played the quality game.
Another problem is that IT management is just a jumping block for many managers and IT V.P.'s - they stay awhile and try to impress people back at corporate in order to get promoted to a bigger GE component. As soon as you get a good working relationship with one, they trust your decisions, etc., they jump ship. Gets annoying afterwhile.
Add the fact that I was the only IT person left from 'way back', I was the one who had to support the old legacy systems - AS/400's, the rogue 200 or so OS/2 machines, etc. Got burned out and needed a change.
That being said, it really was a great company - amazing vision and leadership at the top levels, etc. Unfortunately, too many yahoo's in middle management showed up the last year or so.
