Shelter in Place.

Kinda got freaked out when my weather radio sent out one of those. Shelter in place? What the fuck does that mean? It's actually one of the warnings of the emergency system. Damn thing was blaring at 5 in the morning "shelter in place! shelter in place! shelter in place!"

upon further research I was supposed to break out the duct tape and plastic for the windows and hunker down and shelter in place.

Used to get those all the time when I lived in Houston. Usually a chemical plant fire or explosion.
The idea is that there is toxic crap in the air, don't go outside if you can avoid it.
*Shrug*

You'd prefer "batten down the hatches"?

More appropriate I'd say, only good news is Issac didn't have a chance to further strengthen although 80MPH winds do have some damage potential, the "12-16 of rain coupled with the size of the storm AND the fact it might arrive with it's large swell AT high tide AND it's crawling along at only 8MPH and........ugh it's gonna suck for the flooding..

For some reason whenever one of the AT articles say "sips power" I want strangle the writer, something about it just sounds so pretentious to me.

Gah!!! i swear to God its the most over used word right now. every time i turn on the news there is some jackass reporter saying "we are hunkering down" for the storm....
Talk about over used expressions 😛

You're kidding, right?

^that.

I was going to post the same exact thing, but you know....I like Jeebus' humor so much and while I don't think he was being completely serious-- there were plenty of verbs, just that most of them were at the end--it was one of those, let the post go, just reflect on the comment moments.

😀

here is my pet peeve:

"I can't afford X. With the economy the way it is...."

And it turns out the person doesn't even work. How does the economy even affect them????

My family uses the word all the time to describe our pet pigeons and quails. Regardless of its origins, it's definitely disproportionally favored by rednecks.

That would be because the majority of places where people would ever have to 'hunker down' are places populated primarily by rednecks.
