No crap, two old people had to finish off their job for them. Well I guess I kinda lucked out and got my drive, but jeez they suck. I saw the movie CAST AWAY, i think fed ex is the way to go, hehe they seemed pretty determined to get their job done

Hoop Dogg - I'm also in Canada, and UPS has dropped shipments off at my place without my being home, so I think it depends on the driver. I agree with you about FedEx however, the best around. Purolator has come to my door in the past, neither knocked nor rang the doorbell, and walked away leaving their pickup slips obviously to avoid carrying up somewhat heavy items. If given a choice, it would always be FedEx, expecially if shipping from the US since UPS also charges a very high brokerage fee and FedEx doesn't.

I thought it was only me that thought UPS were a bunch of retards. Looks like I was wrong. :) I had a 256 meg memory module sent to me via UPS, and the idiot left it outside my door in the dead of winter. For at least 5 hours that thing was out there in 10 degree cold. I had to bring it in and let it warm up to room temperature before I could install it.

I just ordered a DVD The Patriot from Amazon. I figure I would pay for 2 day air on this one I get it 3 work days later what a joke. now I am hoping Amazon credits me back the shipping cost.

Delivery problems (leaving on doorstep, etc.) can be solved by simply getting a mailbox at someplace like Mailboxes, Etc. (dunno how widespread they are) where someone is always there to accept the package and keep it out of the rain or away from thieving neighbors. I live in a townhouse, so the UPS dude NEVER leaves stuff on the doorstep and my manager/neighbors are never home 9-5 either, so it seems impossible to get something via UPS. Although, having worked at UPS before, they do handle packages decently (they have strict rules on it), and their tracking is pretty decent as well. I guess it does come down to the driver you get.

I agree! It all depends on the driver! If the driver is educated follows the rules and everything then top quality service. I guess the employers at FedEx have employed all these good hard working people and drivers and left all the crap ones to UPS to employ! But thats my opinion on this...

I have this theory, that only people who've had a problem complain, so I always estimate at least 50 positives for every negative comment.

With that said, I have NEVER had a problem with UPS. I am talking about over 100 deleveries in the last two years. All residential. If I'm not home, they either write a note telling me that they were here and they will try at a different time tomorrow, or they will leave it at my apartment complex's office, which is quite a drive away. They go the extra mile!!

(BTW, I am wearing a flame retardant suit that I got for Christmas, so don't even bother :) )

Mostly I have had good luck with UPS except they do not wait long after knocking on the door. The one really bad one was I had $6'400 worth of stuff comeing and I had to leave town, I called UPS and asked them not to deliver the package that I would pick it up in a week or so. When I arrived home it was on the porch, looking on there websit It had layed on my porch for 4 days, when I went to UPS to complain they told me that no-one had recieved any call from me as to holding the package. I record all my business calls so brought the tape and they listened to it. The supervisor came up missing a couple of days later, no more problems.

THe UPS driver in my area is good, he always has me sign for the packages. I get 1-2 a month minimal. The FedEX and other companies on the other hand frequently just leave packages on my doorstep. Only the UPS guy in my area does a good job. FedEX, airbornExpress and especially USPS never asks for a signature even thought they are suppose to.

hmm.. you guys are starting to worry me..

I just completed an order and had UPS as my delivery method..

long story, I'm sending it to a relative's place in the States, cause all stores that had the CPU I wanted (K6-3+) only delivered to the States only. It just so happens that my grandparents are visiting my aunt and uncles at this moment, and will fly back here to Canada on monday..

the source is Illinois, and the destination is Washington State, so what are the chances of the CPU being delivered by Sunday?

how long should I wait to be sure the CPU has been delivered (if it misses the Sunday deadline).

what do I do if it gets lost??

I think the reason for UPS's laziness in the US is the big strike they had a while back and the number of orders UPS gets. UPS is RICH!!! Ever since the internet boom, UPS has been standard for shipping.

As for me, UPS only knocks on the door maybe once or twice, never wanted a signature, always leaves it on the floor and I never know until the next day, and they take too long. Like right now, I got a birthday gift for my mom, it was delivered on the 3rd of Jan, and now their expected delivery date is Jan 11th!!! I'm sorry, but Texas is not that far from Nevada.

HAHAHAHAHA

This is funny to read cause i worked for ups for a month during the holiday season... made around 1000 bucks too:D

anyhow, I loved throwing the boxes from a distance and watchin them slide on the porch!!

some packages I were thrown from a distance...!!

1 computer I dropped! hehe.......

But don't get me wrong, I was a 1 man team running through 2 feet of snow at times with weather well below 0 working up till 9 pm..... icecycles hangin over roofs and snowmen everywhere... i delivered in nuclear snow storms every other day....
oh yea, some skinny driveway's seemed like a mile long to drop off a package...

man, these guy's are well well understaffed. and i worked my arse off- coming from a rich part of town with a degree in web design with no jobby job yet... needed the hard labor to buy christmas presents for the entire family at my 26 age life....

damn hard job!!!! damn hard!!!!!! oh yea- next year give your ups driver some cookies or a 20 dollar bill- these guy's have it tough for the 25,000 grand a year they make!!!!!!!!!!!!

Heh. About a year ago, I had 4 consecutive monitors destroyed with UPS shipping. I saw box corners smashed in so deeply, you'd think it went through a trash compactor. I spent lots of time yelling at Customer Service...

I basically wouldn't ship anything with UPS unless it item is cheap or durable, and it was the only shipping method available. Airborne Express however, does really love to leave expensive equipment out in the open for all to loot if no one is present. Nothing too bad to note with FedEx yet in my area.

man do i hate UPS. always go fedex when you have the option. a little more expensive but fast and reliable.

bastard UPS has lost 1 creative nomad mp3 player, one 100-300mm zoom lens and idiots have also missent my RMAed hauppauge TV card (took an extra week to get it).

now getting stuff lost back is the biggest hassle ever. you have to call UPS and bitch at them. then they tell you to call the company that sent it to you to request driver follow-up and trace. took me over 3 months for each thing lost to get replaced. I HATE UPS (and yet my radar is being delivered by UPS second day tomorrow. no other option)

Airborne realy sucks. I was expecting a replacement optical mouse from M.S. I was standing in my garage when I saw someone walk up my driveway. He stoped about 15' from my door and tossed something. I thought it was a paper untill I herd it land with a loud thud. I ran out and yelled at him and all he had the balls to do, was to deny it.

All this talk about UPS & FedEx's services aout who is bad & who is good.

Maybe that has to do with UPS is unionized & FedEx is not (at least in their Oakland hub). Basically in UPS once you join the gang (union), you can become lazy & screw-up without worry too much about get firing.

Airborne Express on the other hand, the last time, their dlivery guy did't even bother to open & walk through the gates to my front yard. He just throw the whole package over the fence! while I watching it by my door. They must be unionized just like UPS too. Yes, that will be their last time deliverying to my house.

i thought it was Return on Manufacturer's Authorization...

anyway. it depends on the driver. i live in a complex where UPS delivers at least once a day, fedex not so often. some UPS guys will come right to the door, others just drop at the office. and some guys will just leave the package without knocking (got plane tickets this way). oh yeah, there was the airex guy too. i walk out my door last week, and i kick something. looking down, i see my roommate's two RMA'd maxtors. not even a knock! whats up with that! if you're gonna come up to my door, knock on it!
