I'm super nerd.

Then why did you keep important documents on a flash drive?

this

Yeah, I was heading from our computer lab to my house and planned on backing it up when I got home, aparently it was corrupt by the time I got home

Ok, let me clarify. I met with my group, got their files, got home, drive corrupt! I back up every night. It wasn't like I was just carrying around for weeks without a backup, it was a day. From the time I met with them to the time I got to my house...disaster.

a good number of high resolution PSD files, couple of HD videos and a couple of keynote presentations...and some 7 page documents.

I've had flash drives fail on me before... I never trust them anymore. They're only good for transporting files from machines on the network to machines not on the network for me anymore...

I've had luck with ontrack's data recovery software, but only with HDDs. The flash drives that I've had that have failed were hopeless (due to not mounting, etc) 🙁;

I do know that some manufactures provide data recovery software for their CF cards (Sandisk for example). Maybe there is one from the maker of your flash drive for free?

Had a flash drive fail a couple days ago. My fault, as I pulled it out (it was being used for ReadyBoost, too) while files were transferring. Drive got corrupted. Luckily, I had backup of everything except for one file that I accidentally deleted on my hard drive the day before and forgot to upload to internet. Wasn't a huge loss, as it wasn't anything too important.

You didn't lose all of that though, right? You said you make nightly backups, so you've lost one day. Good luck getting the data back, but even if you can't a couple of late nights and you'll be back on track.

I lost everything my group gave to me. We can't get back together before the assignments/presentation is due, I'm working with them to get as much as I can from them.

Nothing I've tried has worked, I can see the file that is most important (a word document) but I can't seem to recover it.

Do or do not, there is no try.

Dude, don't be a douche. We all know he didn't, he knows he didn't, and he learned his lesson. No need to tell him "I told you so"

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for their help and support. I was not able to recover the one file that I needed most 🙁 corrupted beyond repair 🙁 . Oh well, at least I can say I tried.

Again thank you all.

What? I was trying to be supportive and you call me a douche? We know he made nightly backups, he said so in this thread. Unfortunately as he said earlier he didn't have backups of the other group members' work and can't get back together with them in time to solve the problem. I don't see how I was being a douche.

Regarding your last post narzy, bad luck dude 🙁

Er...I guess I missed that post. 😱. My apologies, good sir -- I wronged you by jumping to a conclusion without reading carefully enough.
