That would be the best thing to do. In the distributed.net directory, just copy the folder onto a floppy disk. You'll want everything in the folder other than buff-in and buff-out, which holds the unique blocks that the client on your computer has right now. If you copy all of the other files and dnetc.ini, when you fire it up on another computer, it'll have all of the settings you have on the computer now.

Russ has some preconfigured clients here.

Paulson has a FAQ here for some of the more common questions.

So how do I do that flushing thing in a couple of days and how do I get to access stats like LoB? When I join?

Sorry people but I need training wheels on that bike. ;)

[edit] Looks like Paulson's page might answer those questions[/edit]

Engineer is correct, you still have to follow the procedures for joining the team. Unfortunately, there's no way to make it that easy. But, at least the install process is automated and the ini pre-configured.:D

Paulson,

These disks are for ALL of Team AnandTech, so they do not have a dnet ID in the ini file. The batch file brings up the configuration screen during the install, so that the new member can enter it.

I will be producing disks specific to those who want to join TA Cube, but I have a few other things to take care of first.

Denis,

You don't have to wait to flush. As soon as it has completed a packet, right click the cow icon and select "flush work". This will put you in to the dnet system. Than after the next full stats run (24 to 36 hours), you'll be able to get to your stats page.

LOB-

You don't have to sign up more than once. That's the beauty of it. :) Just enter your email address (id) into the other computers, and the same settings and they're set. You can just copy the dnetc.ini file (which holds all the settings) if you want, if that's easier for you.

LOB,

Just use the same floppy, and enter your dnet ID (eMail address). You don't have to sign up multiple times. Hell, if you wanted to, just add the:

[parameters]
id=locutus@dotexpress.com

to the ini file on the install floppy, and you won't even have to do that step.

LOB: Once you are signed up, you don't have to sign up each time you get another machine running for you. Everything with your email id on it goes to your account if you will. So you can just copy the ini file and the two dnet files to a floppy and assimilate other computers at will. As long as you have permission to do so :)

Russ,

Dennis has the "Service" installed option, I think! If he wants the cow in the bar, he need to remove the service and install the other version that you have on your site....:)

No cow in my bar. ;) Anyway , the less I have to do (the more this thing works unnoticed and automatically), the more pleased I am. If it's better (easier for me)that I install the visible cow version, then I will. Just enlighten me on the user-friendliness differences. I suppose that I remove my current from control panel add/remove programs.

Hey! The client doesn't show in my add/remove programs and I can't delete the folder because the file is in use. There is no uninstall option in the RC5 folder. How do I uninstall this version so that I can download the one with the cow? This feels like I put AOL on my hard disk. :(

[edit]Ok. Uninstaller nuked it. I'm going to download the cow version and install it now[/edit]

ctrl+alt+del the task is dnetc.exe (for me) Or, run the configuration again, then when it comes to the configuration screec, close, instead of minimize. This *should* work...

Dennis,

Go to a DOS prompt and then change to the C:\Program files\Distributed.net directory...

Type dnetc -uninstall This will remove the client as a service. You can then add the dnetc.exe command to your Startup folder to have the client to automatically start with the Cow in the Bar! You may want to change the properties of the dnetc.exe in the Startup folder to "Start minimized"...

You can also just download Russ other version and re-install after doing the above
dnetc -uninstall command...

:)

GreenBeret,

If it's installed as a service, it won't appear in the task list when you do CTRL, ALT, DEL.

You will need a program like Wintop to view whether it is running or not if it is installed as a service:)

"If it's installed as a service, it won't appear in the task list when you do CTRL, ALT, DEL."

Russ,

I think that this is a problem encountered by those people who install the so-called free pron downloaders. Those things make their modem dial through Guyana or whatever and suddenly the guys find a telephone bill for a couple thousand dollars next month. It all runs in DOS supposedly and is unseen until BANG! :D

Engineer,

Actually, you can just use System Monitor. It's built in to 95, 98, 98SE, and Me.:)

LOB and bigjon,

Have you guys went HERE and entered your e-mail in the search box? If not, enter your e-mail address (cracking one!) into the search box...If found, go to your stats page (if not there automatically) and at the bottom of the stats page is a button link that says "Please email me my password"...Click on that and wait for your password....Once received, go HERE and click on the "I want to join this team" at the bottom of that page. When asked, enter your e-mail address and the received password and join up...Simple :)...especially since I have given you all the links :)

Oh, and thanks for joining and welcome aboard! :D

Update: Sorry bigjon...I see that you are just waiting for yours....D.net can be a tad slow some times..:(
