Kay is a horrible company to do business with. Last year my wife bought a diamond tennis bracelet there. It was a bit too large so they were going to resize if for her for free. They filled out the paperwork on the sale, she paid, then they filled out the paperwork for the resizing job. The person filling it out was very detailed in writing down what was to be done, etc....and put on there "Free service" and in the area where the pricing would go she wrote "No charge" and put $0 on the total line then gave my wife her copy of the receipt.
Fast forward to 3 weeks later. My wife gets a call that the bracelet is ready. We were already out shopping so we made a trip by Kay to get her bracelet. When we got there 2 different women than the one who had originally helped my wife were working. We walk up and tell one of the workers why we are there. She goes to find the bracelet, brings it out and has my wife try it on. Fits perfectly. We say thanks and turn to leave and the woman says "you have to pay for that." My wife says "No, the resizing was free. I have the receipt in my purse." The woman then pulls a receipt out of the bag the bracelet had been in and says "No, it says right here that the resizing charge is $189." We walk over and my wife asks to see the receipt. The woman hands it to us and sure enough it says that the charge is $189. My wife pulls out her receipt, and the original sales receipt, to compare and it is obvious that the handwriting is entirely different on the resizing receipt the woman had handed us. We tell her this and she argues with us trying to say we forged both receipts that we have. We ask to see the original sales receipt and the woman goes to find it. She comes back a few minutes later and says she can't find it in the system.
Then the fight really starts. We are arguing back and forth about the charge for the resizing, about the authenticity of the receipts, on and on and on. By this time it is getting rather loud and the three of us are all yelling at each other. Pretty soon the other woman working comes over to ask what the hell is going on. Turns out she is the manager and after explaining everything to her she goes to check "their system." After a bit she comes back and says she found the purchase receipt but cannot find the copy of the resizing paperwork/receipt that we have. We show her again that they are both obviously in the same handwriting and that the one showing the $189 charge is not. After more arguing she tells us that the charge is $189 and there is nothing she can do about it.
Steam is pretty much coming out of my wife's ears by this point, but to her credit she calmly says: "It says here that I have 90 days to return this purchase if I am not happy with it. Is that correct?" The manager says "yes." So my wife tells her "I want to return this. I'm unhappy with it."
The manager then started throwing a fit, but eventually gave in. My wife got her money, which was over $700, back. We immediately walked across the mall to the jewelry store opposite and in plain site of the Kay and she bought another bracelet. The bitches in Kay were watching the entire time.
Maybe all Kay stores are not bad....but based on my experience with them...and now reading about yours I would say they have some serious customer service issues.
