What's the point of giving applause when the performers arn't there to recieve it?
(I have not seen ROTK yet, but...)
Because it feels good to express your appreciation? Because it is human nature to want
to share in a good experience?
Because that type of reaction is likely to help spread the word about how much audiences
in general liked the film (which is the type of information that does get back to the people
who made the film).
Because it alerts the theater owners that they might want to extend the run of this film if
it produces such a positive reaction from the viewers?
Because standing and clapping helps restore circulation to your butt after having to sit on
it for three hours of a movie you don't even want to have to blink at while watching?
Because the clapping also helps to distract you from the knowledge that your bladder is
going to explode as soon as the circulation to you butt is restored? And the line for the
restroom is going to be even longer than the line was to get into the movie in the first place.
