If you arent using the bones/skin and fat in a broth for a stew or soup, then you are doing a whole chicken wrong.
if I was cooking chicken then yes.

So off topic now lol.
You guys go ahead and eat your expensive unhealthy slop.
I'm not gonna spend $2/lb on bones skin and fat when I can get healthy quality food for less than half that.
MMMmmm organic banana for $0.69/lb.
Not to spoil anyone's appetite, but why does the finished pic look like someone vomited on it?
As a member of the Federal Pot Roast Inspection Board I must warn you that we will be visiting your house to inspect your pot roast today between the hours of 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM Eastern Standard Time.
The inspection may require several samplings.
Looks tasty. Next time you might consider making gravy from the leftover liquid in the crock pot.
Basically, you make a roux (butter and flour) and add in broth from pot.

I can't imagine making a roast with water.
I like using half beef stock and half red wine.
So much more flavor.
12$ can get me 50lbs of food.
I don't pay for the internet.
Or any utilities for that matter.
Curious... what the hell can you buy 50lbs of with $12? Shit, Walmart dog food is something like $20 for 40lbs.
Bout the only thing I can figure is potatoes... that's it.
Meat is free, go learn how to make a snare. I find placing them on animal runs or outside schools provide the fastest results.

besides I had potatoes, carrots, onions and mushrooms. The beef combined with regular seasoning and the horseradish mustard gave an amazing flavour and a nearly black liquid for gravy when done. But like I said I am not a gravy person.
Can add some celery to that to complete the flavor circle.
Very little nutritional value in meat anyway, so I'll stick with cheaper healthier options.

And garlic, since you already have onions.
*snip*
If you read the original post you would see I added 5 or 6 cloves of garlic.
