I just bought a new machine:

Asus SLI board
AMD 64 3500+
1GB DDR 400 CL2.5
200Gb Sata
Logisys CS888CL Case
450W PS
Sony DRU710 drive

and now im looking into a video card... all of these brands make me feel a little skeptical on what to get...

any help would be greatly appreciated... has anyone (tom's... etc.) done tests on the different brands?

Anandtech did a roundup not too long ago. The crowned the Leadtek as the overall best buy.

I've never had anything from MSI. My Leadtek 6600GT runs like a champ. I wouldn't shell out extra money for the Extreme edition, though.

I was looking at both, they seem to be about $20 difference... i wonder if I should get the extreme...

I had planned on getting the Extreme, until I started reading around here that it is fairly simple to overclock the standard version to above extreme edition speeds. I'm just going to get the regular version, spend the 10 minutes to bump up the clock speeds, and save the $20.

:)

I'd spend the $20 for the extreme and leave my warranty and legitimate RMA possibilities intact. :D

Gigabyte makes AGP/PCIe 6600GT. I just ordered a newer model by gigabyte the N66T128D model. It's relatively cheaper than the others but really good.

I just bought an MSI and love it so far. I'm not an extreme gamer, but the games I do have are like different games. It's pretty amazing. Most sites like the Leadtek, BFG and MSI. I would say stay away from the XFX as of right now. There are so many threads on problems. Probably a dozen between AT and Guru. The software bundle is also incredible: 3 full edition games, a 3D screensaver/them application, video editing/authoring software, a demo disc (with some actual cool games, ie DE IW, Blackhawk down, Splinter cell, etc), some type of copying/ghost software, etc. It advertises it as $ 1200 worth of software. While it's not quite that, it's probably a few hundred dollars literally. (there are like 12 discs). Check out Newegg. I'll let you know if there are some problems.

I saw that AT round up too. But don't forget, those are still sort of demo editions. As I understand, the Fan is already quite upgraded since then......

I can vouch for this. My LeadTek 6600GT has been serving me admirably.
