Twice now, in the last hour, I have reached to retrieve a floppy disk from my computer, and the instant my hand brushes somewhere near the button, the computer flips off.

Right after posting this, I'm going to try it again, with my hand on the case. I'll tell you how it went.
 
Sounds like a bad ground in the power switch that is touching the chassis somehow. When you touch the case, it completes the circuit maybe?
