Ramadan is tough. All of us should try it.
It hurts especially in the morning, with fresh coffee on everyone's desk. And at lunch! The smell of food is really pronounced when you're hungry.

What would be the point?

The last thing fat westerners need is their bodies thinking they are in starvation mode more than they already are.

Sounds like a huge waste of time and unhealthy to boot. I'll take my two eggs and orange juice in the morning please.

I always laughed at people having food restrictions as part of a religion reason.

If god didn't want us to eat something he wouldn't had made them so delicious. ;)

Have you lost any weight or are you overeating at night? I'm not religious, but learning patience isn't bad for anyone.

i have lost 15 pounds! my pants fit me much better

people often assume that after starving all day, you are bound to overeat. If you do your normal daily activities, you burn the same amount, just your intake requirement dips, and while it is true that you think of food to eat at sunset all day long, the appetite isnt there at the time.

I eat my usual portion of dinner.

Sorry, I'm not going on 2-3 hour bike rides 4-5 days a week with 0 carbs in me from the past 12 hours. Fasting is retarded.

A former coworker of mine who is Muslim and observes Ramadan told me that he almost always gains weight during the month, as eating habits change and he overcompensates at night.

He also told me that he isn't even supposed to seek out the smell of food (or anything that elicits a pleasurable sensation, like good perfume or whatever).

Personally, I have no religion and thus no restrictions on the types of foods I can eat. And I like it that way.

Overeating has nothing to do with it. Your body is in starvation mode so whatever it gets at beyond what is immediately needed to continue brain function is going straight to FAT STORAGE especially carbs.

Ehh, A friend at work explained fasting for Ramadan to me as being a temporary self sacrifice to help one's humility and essentially, to be more empathetic towards those who are truly hungry/starving. He is one of the people I respect a lot as he's always helping his family out and working very hard...

That being said, I'm not fasting.
