I am haveing problems accessing my HD that is located on a PCI IDE controler card....

Problem:

When i access my seagate barcuda 80gb everything seems fine then all of a sudden win2k will lockup for 5 ~ 10 seconds, then unlock for 5 to 10 sec, then lockup again. This does this for a couple of minutes. After my puter is done freakin out, i am Unable to access that HD. I have to reboot to get the drive back.

The seagate is running off of a Promise PCI IDE controler card (ultra 66). I took off my seagate and hooked up my back IBM drive, and does the same excate thing. (so i guess its not the harddrive.)

Also when i copy files from the HD thats on the Primise IDE controller my system is unusable, It sucks out all the processing power from my PC.

The funny thing is that I NEVER had this problem before i upgraded my PC.
I was running:
650athlon
Asus K7M mobo
Win2K sp2

I upgraded to:
AMD2000+
Epox 8HKa+
Win2k sp2 (fresh install)

There are no cornflicks show in the Device Manager.
I am using a 80pin ide cable.
Under DiskDrives in the Device Manager the Seagate is reconized as a SCSI drive (ST380021 A SCSI DEVICE). is this abnormal??

Any suggestions would be great.

I hate weird problems that i cant figure out.

thanks

well i just installed the lastest Aspi drivers (4.70).
So far it seems to be working ok.

Would the Aspi drivers have anthing to do with the pci controller card or HD??

thanks

DAMN DAMN!

I throught everything was ok, but its not. errr

Here is the errors that i receive from Device Manager:

1.)An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk3\DR3 during a paging operation.
2.)The device, \Device\Scsi\ultra661, did not respond within the timeout period.

Could it be an IRQ problem?
Should the Promise PCI IDE controller have is own independent IRQ??
Here is the my list of irqs. link

Have you checked to see if you have the latest BIOS for the card and the latest drivers installed that are available from Promise.com? I ran into a similar problem when I used the Promise driver provided by MS Wndows Update. I went back to the latest driver on Promise's site and it solved my problems.

i just updated my 8KHA+ bios to the bios dated 1/8/2002.
My pc has not crashed since the bios update......
