I am gonna buy my GT for 200$, in two weeks when the 3800 is out.

Name says it all... I am BUYING a GT for myself... (unless the AMD alternative is cheaper AND faster... which I doubt... I don't like AMD drivers so it will have to be BOTH...)

I am buying it in two weeks though... AMD says their new card will cost "40 dollars less then whatever nvidia charges"... And if it is close in performance to the GT (or even better mayhap?) it will drastically lower prices... Even if it completely flops and is worthless, having waited two weeks the price gouging will subside and I could get it for less then I would now...

Looks like the 3870 will be 199 and I'm guessing the 3850 will be 159 to 179.

http://www.fudzilla.com/index....=view&id=3940&Itemid=1

Since I have a Crossfire board and I've always been an ATI fanboy, I'll be getting the 3870 regardless. I'll get one when it comes out and another on black friday if there's any deals going around. If not I'll pick up another at Christmas. I know Crossfire and SLI are overrated but at those prices I don't see any reason not to.

thats funny.. because nvidia MSRP for the 8800GT is 200$... they want to sell the 256MB for much less then 200...

The 300$ price tag you are seeing is 100% price gouging by the manufacturers and the distributers...

On newegg of canada for example the evga GT superclocked started at 240$... it wen up to 250 after an hour. 260 after another hour, 270 after another hour... 5 hours after launch you could preorder it for when they have more stock,... at 290$... none of that extra money goes to nvidia or the maker.. its all price gouging by the retailer... When the ATI comes out the price gouging will subside... and then you are looking at a card which is at the same MSRP as what nvidia wants... so it should come down to the performance... this is why I said I will buy my GT in two weeks for 200$.. noone will charge 300$ for it when ATI has something to offer... and with Nvidia MSRPing it at 200$ that means the cost of making it is probably ~100... (that includes the cost the manufacturer pays nvidia for that chip that is... 100 for chip + everything else to make it methinks...)

Thank you AMD. I don't need the best of performance. If RV670 is like 8800gts performance I would consider that if it saves me $30-$50.. These $300 8800gt is still too much for mid range.

did you even read my posts? any of them? I mean.. did you even read the TITLE of the thread? this about ignores the very title and crux of the thread itself as if the matter was never mentioned... That being that nvidia says that the ATI card is not gonna be cheaper... and the reason for the 300$ price tag is that merchants are gouging us... And that when ATI releases theirs both 3800 and GT should be cheap... 200$ for a GT 512MB, 150 for and AMD or a GT 256MB...

The whole point is to say "I am gonna wait two weeks and I bet you it pays off".. now lets hear bets on weather it does or doesn't please... do you think it is gonna happen this way or not.

You need to learn to accept when people don't see things the same way you do. What's righteous for you, may not be righteous for the next person. I understood what Azn meant. He doesn't mind a bit of performance hit if he can save 30 to 50 dollars.
So, you go ahead and buy your GT for 200 dollars in two weeks. Let us know how you made out with that. It would indeed be great if you could obtain one in two weeks that cheap. Good Luck.

$50-$60 is still lot of money to save for 20% performance. It probably performs like 8800gts. Not bad. How low can they go is what I'm looking for. :p

Right now etailers are selling the GT for $260-300 and having a hard time keeping them in stock. I'm not expecting a price drop anytime soon.

Except it wouldn't be a true price DROP, just selling them for MSRP.

So hopefully the entrance of AMD/ATi's new card will help force retailers to play ball with their pricing.

If indeed prices return to normal in the coming weeks i'll be picking up a GT as well. If they don't, F them I can wait.

That's never been officially stated, and while you're probably right, the initial pricing for the 512MB models that vendors were selling were $230-250. Then they sold out and raised prices. So we can expect that when supply returns to a level where they don't continue to sell out, 512MB models will be available at least as low as $230.

Not true. Retail price for base line 512meg version is supposed to be $200. Superovercloked versions are $250. 256mb part is supposed to be cheaper. This is straight out of Nvidia's mouth.

No I thought that also, but Anandtech said in their review that the non-oc'ed 8800GT 512mb cards will drop to $200, after the initial frenzy. Nvidia's press release specifically mentions this as well.

My question is what should I do, given the fact that I have a GTS 320MB?

(1) Jump on the GT now?
(2) Wait for the new GTS in December?
(3) Wait for the new high-end (GTX) in early 08?

Don't be too optimistic. You most likely will not see GTs at $200 when RV670s are released in a couple of weeks. More so if RV670 ends up being much slower. There would be no incentives for the retailers to lower the price if there is no competition performance wise to the GT. You may see a slight decline, but nothing significant like you suggest.

One man's price gouging is another man adhering to simply laws of supply and demand. 'Whatever the market will bear' may be a bad idea for health insurance policy, but no one is gonna die over a video card. Enough grumbling about price from wanna be early adopters. I paid my 289 for an oc'd GT and am fine with it. If it was $350 I wouldn't have bought it and wouldn't have complained.

Buy a card when you start slowing down is the best advice I can give you. Upgrading every few months can be expensive.

Well, obviously YOU have the ca$h to go around. Many others (like myself), do not.

I've been waiting on Crysis for about 15 months. Now its here and I only run 'ok' (all High, no AA, no AF @ 1280x960, average 32fps in benchmarks (31CPU, 33GPU)).

I plan on getting a new monitor as well (22" WS - 1680x1050), so I just want to know what is my best bet.

Heres a simple solution for you, DONT buy a graphics card NOW if you want it purely for Crysis. Wait for the next big card like the 8900GTX (9800GTX).

If you want to play all the other decent games being released then jump on one of the 8800GT or the ATI's equivelent.

don't buy a video card right now if you're upgrading monitors soon. wait for new high-end cards to come out.
