repair and networking at my high school in the fall. Its a new thing here. does anyone have any diagnostic tests to determine who should be allowed to enter? what are my parameters and guidelines for determining who should be allowed to enter? any help whill be greatly appreciated. thanks.

People that have taken some sort of typing class. You won't spend 10 minutes waiting for them to type in "format c:", and they will have at least used a computer before.

I would LIKE to have a diagnostic to measure math, science, and dexterity skills. I will be able to limit the number of students to about 20 and I must CHOOSE them. We want the initial offering to be very successful. thanks.
Oh by the way, have you ever taught math or science in public schools?

Depending on how indepth you plan on going, especially in the networking side of things, knowing binary, hex, and octal would be helpful.

I need some way to determine who will be able to learn binary fairly easily. to let you know the situation i am in, my calculus kids this year had never heard of binary before. and it kind of blew their minds when i showed it to them. and they are the smart kids. so the math background around here(south louisiana) is not that great. these high school kids think it will be "fun". what to do, what to do?

I doubt you'll get to choose them. That makes the class too biased... We had a class like this at my high school. I think the requirements were a certain level in math and also required the typing class. Just be sure that when you have the class you spend the first few weeks teaching Hex and Binary. If you don't do that and make it difficult sounding enough, you won't scare off the slackers. Also, outlaw games altogether and don't tolerate it. Games like Scorched Earth always had a way of finding their way in on a floppy.

i was offered that job at my old High School, and to think about it, it's still an offer, but they'll be paying me only 9.50, which is nothing compared to my current job, so i told them, sorry, no can do, i have bills to pay.
