I've never seen a picture of you, but are you over 6' and 300 pounds so you can carry it? :D

No, I'm going to try to make it as light as possible. Ballast can come later and can easily be hidden, though I don't know if I need any, what with the DC motor and battery.

You can do what these guys did and base it off the model files from the game.

You should put a PC in it so you can also enter it for case mod competitions.

Thanks, didn't think of doing it that way. Unfortunately, I believe that the in-game model does not spin nearly as fast... it feels like it's 12-15 revs/second rather than 27. However, if I make the decision to stay with 1666 RPM I can go with a standard ~1750RPM motor.

Also, the size of the motor required to spin up the barrel assembly in the same time as it does in in-game is going to be quite large and heavy. If I wanted to take this thing to LAN parties I'd have to remove the motor and battery for sure.

i'd use aluminum. it'll be a little more expensive (IIRC aluminum is 5x the cost of steel) but the weight reduction should be worth it.

also, machinists are not cheap. unless you are doing all the machining yourself (no idea what your mechanical/machining background is)

I can do machining myself.

I think I'll use a geartrain to drive the barrel assy rather than a belt or roller chain, just so I can get that distinctive whrrrrr.

You sure you want to have 1000+ RPM on it? sounds like it could be trouble. I would keep it more in line with what is seen in the game.

Yeah, especially if you're running a computer inside, I'd keep the RPM rather low. IMO, it'll get just as much attention spinning at ~300 RPM as it would at 1000+.
