Dear Friends,
I am going to build a new system (processor, motherboard and PCI expess) within 1 month. I have decided to buy a few things. Please have a look at my configurations and say something about that. Your recommendation will be appreciated ...

1. AMD Athlon 64Bit 3700+ 2200MHz
Asus A8R-MVP ATI Xpress 200 Crossfire
MSI-ATI RX1600 Pro DDRII DVI (256MB/128BIT)

2. AMD Athlon 64Bit 3700+ 2200MHz
Asus A8N-SLI Nforce4SLI
nVidia Geforce 6600GT SLI 128MB

3. Intel Pentium D 2.8 GHz
MSI MS7176 i945 NEO PE
MSI-ATI RX1600 Pro DDRII DVI (256MB/128BIT)

Well, my budget is not that good to buy high end system. May be I can add a little bit more. Please recommend me which to buy among them? Or, which configuration I can change to get better performance ....

*** A stupid question - What does actually Athlon 64Bit 3700+ 2200 MHz means? For intel I can understand what 2.8Ghz means. Does 3700+ 2200MHz means 2.2 GHz?

well, thats a difficult question for me. Actually I don't play games that much. But sometimes I do a lot of graphics works. So, at least I need a good system. By the way, if I can play better games it would be better .... :)

Thanks to both of u for ur kind reply ....

Thanks .... but which one would be better to buy? ATI or nVidia? Moreover, which motherboard would be better?

I would look at reviews to decide wich graphics card to get. I haven't seen any on the x1600 but i'm sure you can find some. If you are going to wait a month to buy all of this wait to get information, because you never know what will change, and how low prices will go. For now I would go with #2 of your options just because I've heard alot of good things about the 6600gt.

I would go with 2.

I wouldnt even think of 3.

2 is basically my system, except with a single core 3700+. I think you will be pretty happy with 2.

Defintely go with an AMD system. I'd suggest saving some money on the CPU and get a 3200+ venice core, it overclocks very well. With the money you saved on the CPU get an Evga 6800GS. I was going to get that 3700+ until a forum member here suggested the 3200+ and it's overclocking capabilities.

Thanks Jason for ur comments. I was also thinking about saving on the CPU and spend a little on something else ...
Thanks to all for their responses :)

I agree that it would be wise to buy the 3200+ instead of the 3700+. There is really only 200MHz difference between them. Even if you leave the 3200+ at stock speed you will not notice any performance difference between them at office tasks, e-mail, browsing. You would be hard pressed to notice a few FPS difference in games that 200MHz will bring two. The extra cache in the 3700+ only adds an average of 3% performance advantage at some tasks. Other tasks will not see any difference between the two cache sizes.

64Bit means that the CPU is capable of supporting 64bit code. That's the future of computing. 3700+ 2200MHz means that the core is clocked at 2.2GHz as you said. 3700+ is AMD's performance rating for it's CPUs. Think of it as a comparison to Intel Pentium 4 processors. A 3700+ would perform equally or better than an Intel Pentium 4 CPU clocked at 3.7GHz.

I would not even consider the Pentium D 2.8GHz. Even though it's a dual core CPU, it's a piece of crap. If you are considering going dual core then a better quality processor is the AMD X2 3800+. The 3700+ will demolish the Pentium D 2.8GHz in the majority of tasks.

The one nice thing about the 3700+ is that it runs with a 1mb L2 as opposed to the 521kb on the 3200+....
