I am giving up Atkins

I think it would be fair of you to say that you weren't actually doing Atkins, but something much more modified.

There isn't one weight loss plan that fits everyone. If you think you'd be happier at a lower weight, definitely check out the other options.

But every plan has it's sacrifices. And unfortunately, I don't think there's a single one that considers beer a good part of a healthy diet.

HEATHEN!!!!

no they don't last time i ate steaks for a week was when i was on a 7 day cruise 2 weeks ago
it didn't bother me one bit some nights i was like hrm ill have another dish and the steak.....or just 2 steaks

go me and my 135lbs w00t

i was going to say its because your beloved atkin fell down the stairs and hit his head and died somehow due to the deit but noooo 😛

You can have any grain alcohol drink on atkins. The trouble with that diet is you still get cravings(bread is one of mine)and when you fall off the wagon so to speak the weight jumps back on . For me the answer seems to be to eat less and move around more .

Atkins is great..............that is if you are looking forwards to kidney failure. Quite while you are ahead.

You can have much more than steak. Have you tried some form of chicken, pork, fish? You gotta give it at least 2 weeks. Hold off on the beer for just a while longer.

Yet even MORE misconceptions about this nutritional plan. Every single time anything low carb gets posted, we get people who haven't a single clue posting crap that they believe is fact.

Unless you can provide proof (a study), then please keep your FUD to yourself.

(Thank you for your support.) 😉

You and everyone else. Do you actually know anyone who's lost any significant weight on the thing? I don't. It's a fad diet taken up by people who are tired of being fat, but are too lazy to excercise.

Obvious troll post.

I lost 50+ lbs on that diet.

The good thing about Atkins diet threads is that they bring the dumbest members of the forum out of the woodwork. They'll STRONGLY oppose the diet, yet further requests for knowledge will reveal that 1) they have never been on the diet 2) they have not read the book 3) they don't even understand what the diet is about, and 4) they are merely repeating the words that they heard spewed by another person just like them.

If you want to listen to someone who HAS read the book and HAS followed the diet, I can honestly tell you that I lost between 50-60 lbs on the diet. And I was working out at the gym the entire time. I was working out for years before the diet, I was working out during the diet, and I have been working out for over a year after the diet.

I can tell you my experience- you will lose weight, but don't expect to build muscle while you are losing that weight. Lose the weight first, and then try to build muscle.

My doctor actually prescribed the Atkins diet. I'll take the word of an M.D. over anybody on AT anyday. 😉

If that's all the motivation you have, you're not going to lose weight on ANY diet.

How do you honestly expect to lose weight while you are still thinking about drinking beer and eating normal food? Drinking beer and eating "normal" food is what made you fat in the first place.

And I can tell you from experience, if you lack the motivation to stay on a diet for a week, then even if you join a gym you're not going to go for any sustained period of time.

Key sentence there is that you were working out for years before. I'd guess that you probably consistently have excercised for years on end and have some sort of long-lasting motivation and you could probably lose weight with Atkins or any number of other diets.

Atkins is going to fail for the majority of people who try it, but then again most diets will fail for the majority of people who try them simply because the majority of people do not have what it takes to modify their life accordingly.

Atkins pulls people in because they hear steak+eggs+butter and think "wow I can do that!" but like anything in life worth having you gotta put the pain in somewhere and with atkins that pain comes in the form of few carbs.

For me personally I love carbs too much and I know Atkins is not the option for me but some people have kept off the weight with it. Definitely the minority but like I said it's a minority who actually lose weight and keep it off anyway.

The trick to ANY diet has to FIRST be: Willpower. You need willpower and determination and no amount of trickery or slick books or pills is going to circumvent that fact. If you don't have the willpower to lose weight and you're looking at the diet to provide the willpower when in fact you should be looking at yourself to provide it and the diet merely the means then you're bound to fail.

Anybody who has yo-yo dieted in their life (and most overweight people have at some point lost weight) have proven that their body is able to lose weight. They yo-yoed back up because they fell off the horse. For some reason, which I will blame now on ignorance and overall laziness in the population, people feel that there must be something other than effort involved in losing weight. That's why the diet industry makes so much money and so many new products come out because these all cater so perfectly to most people's desire to lose weight without actually putting in the effort. But you'll find that those who have lost weight and kept it off have invariably done it by putting in the time and depriving themselves of what they truly want: cake, candy, beer, pizza. If left to my own devices I'd balloon up because I love junk food but I have to say no and it's a part of the equation few seem willing to admit.

LOL!

I guess my willpower is not what it should be. I'll go back to eat what I like but junk food and soda is out for good.
Keeping up the biking and just enjoy life. I am not THAT overweight for my length. I am not suffering from it.

😀

I wouldn't do Atkins unless your fat as PH*CK anyway man, not worth it in the least when you consider the fact that normal amounts of bad food can still keep you at a decent weight with some exercise. Live it up man 😎.

Ok brainiac... Why do you think that the Atkins plan does NOT call for exercise? Everybody with ANY common sense know that if you want to lose fat, you need to exercise.

If you find the need to actually get INFORMED before the next time you post about exercise and low carb diets, check out Everyone Can?and Must?Find Time to Exercise. Hell, feel free to do a search for "exercise" on the Atkins site, and you'll find a ton of information.

And if you think low carb'ing is easy, why don't you give it a shot for 7 days? See how long you last. 😛

There is no "easy" way to lose weight. It's hard work. Probably the hardest thing I've ever done in my life, not including being a parent.

Oh, by the way... I've lost 18 lbs in 5 weeks. 😀

Skoorb, you couldn't be more right. To lose weight, and (more importantly) keep it off, you need motivation. You need to accept that a complete, PERMINENT nutritional/active change is a must. I know that even after I reach my target weight, I won't be able to eat and be as active as I used to. And I have accepted that. Like I said, I've lost 18 lbs and there's no way I'm going to screw up all the hard work, thus far.

Atkins isn't for everyone. But it does work.
