So you've been caught driving over 100 mph and you drive without a license, you're young, and male. Insurance companies know who and what types of people are more likey to cause large losses, and you fit the bill perfectly. I wouldn't insure you for $750 a month, I know it would be a matter of time before I had to pay many times that because you caused a wreck and injured some folks.
If you don't like it, try driving without insurance and get in a wreck. Then see if you think $750 a month is a rip off.
Just because the agent is friends of the family doesn't mean he tells the company what you should pay. If you're a dangerous driver and have a police record to prove it, then you shouldn't even have a license IMO.
I dont believe Ive ever seen a better recipient of the "LOOK AT ME, IM A JACKASS" award

I've never been in an accident, i've only filed a claim once ever and it was cause my car got broken into. i realize i fit a profile.
i'm aware that he doesn't set the price, what i was saying about him being a friend, i will always be able to get insurance through that company, not an lower price.

No, you won't because a company will not take on a liability like that. If you had two more wrecks or say a DUI they WOULD drop you. He could do nothing for you. There are times when people are forced to go to companies that only deal with high risk drivers. Try 2,000 a month to insure your car.

I was rear ended in a separate accident and the damages were FAR worse than the one she was involved in, but I *NEVER* gave a thought to suing that guy! The litiguious society has gone too far... it was bad when ppl started suing Mcd for them being fat, but now being sued myself, its absurd! It may or may not affect my insurance rates in the future, but whatever the result, its whole heartedly a waste of time and money for all people involved!

And if this guy were in your shoes, what jury or judge would look at his past record and give him a favorable verdict? NOT ONE, the insurance company knows this and that's why his rates are set at $750 a month.

So you've had two major tickets and a claim? Sounds like the agent has already pulled strings just to keep you with the company.
As far as the progressive quote or whoever it was that quoted you the other price, are you absolutely sure they know your past record? Every single last detail, as in how fast you were going, and not just telling them that you had just a speeding ticket? I'm very surprised if so.
Also, just remember, you get what you pay for. If you want good service when you need them, that's where the premium companies pay off. The cheaper companies will get you involved in a lawsuit and/or deny your claim when you have to make one. The cheaper companies are also more likely to drop you at the first claim or negative action on your driving record.

they don't ask details in the quote process, they just ask what tickets i have on my record. the reckless driving ticket, it wouldn't be any different if i was going 120, it's the same ticket.
my claim only ended up paying out $300 before the deductible, so total out of pocket for them was like $200. they replaced a crappy stereo, and fixed some my window.

It costs about 2.5k/yr to fully insure a civic around here with a spotless record...and this is jersey...unless you have some sort of special coverage...I don't see how it goes that high. ah well. I'm happy with not driving anymore. I'd rather have the money and I prefer the subway in NYC to the traffic.

I think if you read the fine print it will tell you that the price quote is subject to being reviewed by an underwriter, those are the evil bastards that calculate what kind of a risk you are based on where you live, your age, marital status, financial position, driving record, and grades. Those are usually a good indicator of what a person's moral character are.
You are a law breaker and it's become clear to them that you don't abide by the law and they don't want to insure you for normal rates. They're in this proposition to make money, not lose it. How is that hard to understand and the company is ripping you off?

i'm 21 and i'm on the least coverage the loan company will allow to keep my contract with them valid. i live in ut, so i think rates are generally less out here compared to nj. i wish we had an alternative to the bus system, it's too unreliable. i live in the outskirts of SLC and we don't have much as far of public transport, or i would take that instead.
