"quitting smoking is easy, I've done it hundreds of times"
Keep up the good work!!!! I'll be joining you on the first.
I have a new "tool" I'm going to try and add to my arsenal this time. I don't know about you, but when I'm really winded I don't feel like smoking.. So when I get the urge, I'm going to run up and down my stairs a few times..
I know people talk about the health issues when someone is trying to quit. (and the effort is appreciated) but I know for me, I've always known the risks, and have had family members pass due to cancer..
In fact, I lost my mother 10 weeks and 4 days ago to cancer. Right before she died I was outside the hospital having a cigarette, after she passed the FIRST thing I did when I got out of the hospital was light a cigarette.
Smoking is chemically and psychologically addictive. Logically, us stupid smokers know how bad it is, but unfortunately, it's deeper than that.
Another tool I'll use for my quitting is the fact that my mother never knew she was terminal, she quit smoking several weeks before she passed, she was hospitalized because she couldn't hold down food, she was diagnosed with cancer (but thought there was hope), went into surgery on a Monday, the surgeons opened her up and saw her entire trunk loaded with cancer and told us she probably had a week to live. She was never told this, and was kept on medication to keep her comfortable, Tuesday (her last concious day) several hours before she slipped into coma, we were talking about her quitting smoking... (because she had "just quit"

for no occasion, just woke up and didn't smoke.. and she said she realized when she woke up that morning that she wanted to live.. we continued to talk about other things, a couple hours later she slipped into a coma, and passed away 1:40 am that saturday morning.
