Good luck. I can't say I know what it's like because I don't. I can either smoke or not smoke. I don't have any issues with it. I like a good cigar now and again, and I'll have a cigarette if I am out at a bar, or something. But, I don't miss smoking when I am not.

My grandmother is like a friggin chimney. She smokes nonstop. I wish I could get her to quit, as she is a true addict.

Hang in there. 🙂

Hang in there 🙂 It isn't easy but it is worthwhile, and every day is a little bit easier. In about a week you'll be through your physical withdrawal, then it's all mental.

Drinking more water and exercise helped me out quite a bit, and eating raw veggies helped too.

Girl Friday -

Give it your best shot for yourself and your family.
It took a severe heart attack and a quadruple bypass to get me to quit.
You really don't want to do it that way.

Best of luck!

GirlFriday: Congratulations. Now just hang in there and you'll get the monkey off your back. I speak from experience. I smoked for 20 years and was up to 3 packs a day (Camels) when I quit. Cold turkey. That was 11 years and a half years ago. Haven't smoked since. By the way, does your husband smoke? My wife still does and I can't stand it!

Yes, my husband does smoke. He is attempting to quit too, I don't know how he will do though since he is a chain smoker, and already gave in today. Hopefully we can do this together.

The reason I want to quit is because every woman in my family has died of cervical cancer except my aunt and my mother, by the age of 55. My aunt was diagnosed with cancer, and had to have surgery for it. And she quit smoking twenty years ago. So I know the risk is already high for me, and smoking is just making it ten fold.

<< I am sitting here with my gum, chewing like a cow >>

uh, not to mention dressing like a cow, looking like a cow, and smelling like a cow.

psssssst, i changed my avatar just for that comment ;-)

smoking sucks. it's bad for my health =( it's bad for your health =( it's bad for your children's health =(

Hang in there GirlFriday, think of your kids and also remember that the cancer risk drops back a lot once you stop! Not quite to non-smoker levels, but quite close. You're doing the right thing and it sounds like you have good reasons. I wish you and your husband the best 🙂

good luck GF! my dad tried to quit...he quit for 3 months but he's back at it. i blame my uncles. he hangs out with them and they all smoke. i think my dad and all my uncles started when they were young teens like 14-15 and they are still smoking to this day. ranging froma pack a day to 2 packs a day. Good luck! i'm rooting for you. let us know how you're doing.

hey, why not get the patch or go see a doctor for something to help ease you off of them?
You're poor family is gonna be miserable if you suffer.

My wife's motto when she is sick or in pain is "when I'm miserable, so is the family" LOL 😀

Good luck for the sense and courage to quit.

Good luck. I've been smoke free 2 years, 11 months, and 4 days. Regular gum only helps so much. I used a few pieces of nicorette at first. It tasted horrible, but I at least I wasn't smoking. It's tough for a few days, so hang in there, don't give in.

yeah go for it quit quit quit quit quit quit !!!! just remember quit is healthy spelled worng, and its also "more money" spelled wrong

Good luck quitting. Just remember that if you give in and smoke one the withdrawl symptoms you incur will be worse the next time you try to quit. You also have to start all over, and just think of how today was. Its not something you want to go through again. I was lucky because I was never addicted. I also know what my mom went through to quit. Just forget about wanting one, and when you really want to quit you will through all of them away, if there's not one in the house you won't smoke it. also, clean all the asktrays and put them away in a box in a far region of the house that you won't wonder too, throw them away if possible. Clean your house, walls, sideboards, etc to get the smell out. It'll help...trust me. 🙂

it can be done...i watche dmy father just quit cold turkey one day, he started chewing gum and folding up the wrappers real neatly to give his hands something to do instead of hold his pipe, it worked been more than 4 years now...
best of luck to you, and think of all the computer parts you can buy with the money not spent on cigs...heck you might even be able to afford a P4...

Good Luck GF!

Some things to remember when tempted:

Picture your lungs!
Think of the money spent on cigs!
Remind yourself that you want your kids to have mom at weddings and to see grandchildren!

And when you are REALLY tempted:

Rob Thomas considers smoking a real turn-off! 😀

😉

Hang in there... make a promise that if you do smoke one you will post that you did here - that could help you avoid it!

Also - NEVER let yourself have "just one"!!!

YOU CAN DO THIS!

Wow, thanks for the support guys. It has been over 24 hours, and I am still going. I really think I can do it this time. I will not let myself take even a puff, because I can feel if I do that, I am done. But hey, I am still holding on. 🙂

Optimus: Oh, you know the words to keep me in line. Rob Thomas, now there is something to keep my mind off smoking. 😀

Wow. If you have the willpower to keep away when you have one sitting there by you, you should be able to quit easily.

Personally, I'd go through the house and trash every single smoke so that there is NO temptation.

I've tried cigs, but they just didn't appeal. I've thrust all my vices and addictive tendencies into porn, anyway. I don't have room for another addiction. 😀
