It's been 3 months working on this pc, design work, gaming, browsing etc..music.. in daily appz I use around 800MB ram. Tons of stuff open (Firefox, opera, IE, radmin, cuteftp, dreamweaver, fireworks, winam, icq, leechget, msn messanger, CS fire monitor, notepad, wordpad, etc...) It's super stable, the system is very fast, responsive, no slowdowns, no crashes, no random restars. Extremely happy!
When I bought the pc I had random restars, couldnt install windows etc on the first motherboard I bought (Soltek SLN-RL2, K8T800) so I got pissed and ditched the $100 mobo for an Abit KV8max3 - 190$... turned out I had the same problems, With tons of testing turned out in the end that the Hitachi DVD rom was causing all the problems, some IDE issues.
So, That soltek mobo left over, and the ram with it, DDR400 noname (PQI) and a leftover 9600pro Gbyte...well, used them to make another PC, bought a cheap ATX case and put 400W psu in it, and also bought Amd Athlon 2800+ 64bit, and 80GB maxtor 8mb case SATA drive and compiled a new machine. So the new one is:
Soltek K8t800 mobo
512 DDR 400
9600 pro gbyte
2800+ 64bit, 1800mhz, oces to 1900mhz superstable
Sony DVD rom
---> So the 2 machines now use the 2 LCD monitors, the first machine uses Digital connection to Monitor #1 and Analog VGA to monitor #2... The second machine uses Digital connection to Monitor #2. So when I like I just push the "Exit source" button on the second monitor to switch between machines.
IT's very cool, I am very happy 🙂
Lol, turned out to be a long post, sorry
