I am doing a paper on CPU manufacturers this year, I was thinking this would be a good idea to get your opinions or anything you might want me to put in about why one manufacturer might be better, etc. (My Prof used to work for *ntel)

I might quote from some of you in my paper if somebody has something profound to say 🙂

I am hoping you guys like voicing your opinions

OH, does anybody have that PDF from *ntel about how AMD's rating system is invalid? If you could shoot me a link I would appreciate it.

For the most common user, which is someone that uses their computer at a word processing and net surfing level, most any processor over 1 Ghz is complete overkill. Yet computer companies keep developing new more incredibly fast chip, and the common user keeps buying them. Its a cycle based on the lack of knowledge on the consumer's part, and the urge to simply have the more modern materials.

Good point, but software is also an issue.... Windows keeps getting bigger and bigger and needing more CPU to run. But yes, it is as you say, people don't need the new versions of windows but they keep buyin them.
