So long story cut short, did everything, never fixed the problems with the 5700 XT in 8 months of owning the card. I am currently on a humble R9 280X on latest AMD drivers without any issues, i can still play a whole lot of games surprisingly well at 1080P on much lowered settings and giving up a perfect 60 FPS experience let alone 144 which is my refresh rate.

So, i have £500 to spend on an Nvidia card and yes i am aware of the huge prices right now, however what do you recommend? i don't mind buying something slightly weaker than the 5700 XT as long as it is close to it.

System spec.

Ryzen 2600X
16GB Corsair 3200mhz
Gigabyte Aorus 5700 XT
Superflower SF-650F14HG

MSRP 3070 FE is £469 (£900+ inflated) & 3060 Ti FE is £369 (£620+ inflated), 2070 Super is sometimes in stock for £490. There's nothing below those that would be close to 5700XT or better for £500 or less.

I am in Newcastle why?
My bad, I should have paid attention to the currency symbol. I was momentarily interested in your broken 5700 xt. However, I am on the wrong side of the ocean for that.

If that happens to you again, I suggest RMA whatever it is right away, rather then waiting for mythical driver fixes.

The 3060 Ti MSRPs at $399 USD, and is an excellent value in terms of frames per dollar. If you wait a while and pick one up at MSRP, that is likely your best deal by far.

Oh, no problem, thanks for your suggestion!

I'm curious what issues you are having with your 5700XT? I just got mine about 2 weeks ago (Sapphire Pulse) and haven't had any issues with the latest drivers (20.11.3). It's running cool and haven't had a stutter, crash, or instability problem so far in about 20 games tested, including two real system hogs, Flight Sim and DCS World. I haven't owned an AMD card since the ATI X1650Pro, so I'm no fanboy :D I have been avoiding AMD because of the poor reviews and driver issues. I just got tired of the GPU circus, and the card was $380 USD new, so I took the risk.

I like the advice to wait until you can get a 3060ti/3070, or better yet wait until the 3070 ti is out, which should up the availability and lower the price of the others. I plan on giving this card to my son next fall, and will likely pick up whatever is best price/performance at that time.

EDIT: The system my 5700XT is in right now:

WIN 10
MSI B550 Gaming Plus
Ryzen 3600
Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3200 (2x8 GB)
EVGA B3 550W PSU
Fractal Design Meshify C (good airflow)

Are you planning on gaming at 1080P? They're all unicorns at this point, but if your motherboard supports it you might be better off looking at selling the 2600 and picking up a 5600X and 3060 Ti instead of going with the 3070. MSRP on the two would be US$700, so a little over budget directly converted to GBP, but you can recoup some if you can sell the existing CPU.

Just a single reference point, but TPU has the 3070 being 10% faster than the 3060 Ti at 1080P. In their 5600X CPU review, using a 2080 Ti (so 3060Ti/3070 class) they had the 5600X being 20% faster than the 2600 at that resolution.

This is a very good pathway for me, the board does support the 5000 series (Bios update) but i would be putting nothing more than the 5600 series in it due to VRM's.
Thanks!

16.3% faster to be exact at 1080p, and only 7.7% faster than the 3600 for almost double the price. At 1440p, there is only a 3.1% difference between the 3600 and 5600X, and only 7.9% difference between the 2600 and 5600X. Not trying to rain on everyone's 5000 series parade, but some sober thought needs to take place based on price...unless you don't care about such things I guess :D I paid $165 USD for my 3600. I'm always a price\performance guy, so to me, the 5600X (at 1440p) should be no more than $175 USD. Yah, I know that's a pipedream, but it may be better to wait and see what the 5600 non-X has in store.

If you say the 5600X is 20% faster than the 2600, you're using the 2600 as the reference. In this case you'd use the 100% value from the review and 83.7% for the 2600, so 100/83.7= 1.195. By your math, if a Pentium 4 scored 10% on that chart, the 5600X would only be 90% faster than it, instead of 1000%.

The 3600 is really hard to find, but if you can get it at that price that's a great way to go to. That's not what I've seen lately at least here in Canada, some stores will have it pop in at US$220 or so and sell out instantly, and people on the buildapcsales subreddit are actually buying OEM versions without the cooler off Aliexpress for $185 and considering it a good deal. Sold auctions on eBay are showing them going used for US$200+. Stock on the 5600X sucks too of course, but I'm thinking the stock situation on the 5600X will continue to improve while the 3600 will keep getting worse. You're right though, the 5600 will likely be a better value that the 5600X for gaming but we don't know price, release date or even if they're actually make one. Tough to recommend right now.

Yah, it's not my 'logic' and I didn't do any math, I just glanced at it and am reading it wrong. I usually steer clear of TPU and use HWU, but they haven't done any scaling benchmarks yet. I think the point is clear that you're going to see a much larger benefit at 1080p, and not much at 1440p. I have a feeling though that the 5600/5600X will be the same scenario as the 3600/X/XT where there is no noticeable difference between them other than price. AMD seems to have taken some marketing classes by releasing the X versions first this time.

I am seeing the same thing where the 3600 will show up on Newegg.ca for $349 and be sold out instantly. It seems the GPU craze has leaked over into CPU's. It's dumb to spend that much for sure. I guess we maybe won't see the $229 CAD price again! If you were building new, a 5600X may make sense, since the 5600 can't be had. If it was me though with a 2600X, I'd be waiting for that 5600. If you're buying a video card, you're going to be waiting even longer than that anyways by the looks of things.
