I am building a new AMD system. I need some advice on what mother board to get. I am pretty set on getting a T-bird 1.13 Ghz 266fsb. I need to know what you think about the board. I don't know if I should get PC133 or DDR. I have read so much on those but I am still pretty confused. So if you have any advice as to what would be the best bang for the buck please let me know. Also any help on cooling and overclocking would be helpful. Thanks

rhumpnet my suggestion would be to read up on the treads. Alot of people post the same question that you have and you may get faster response by just doing a search. I don't have experience with DDR but I just built my system and most of the information I got from this board and the articles from the various sites.

good luck

I think it really depends on how much mula you got. You can get a 133 board for athlon for pretty cheap, whereas ddr is bucko bucks. Plus you can get pc133 256mb sticks for as little as 73 bucks and a mobo for 100, throw in ata 100 raid and you can get a mobo/proc/mem for under $300. Then you can spend extra dough on a nice gpu like Geforce 2.

www.aceshardware.com does a really good comparison of the Kt133A to the KT133 and the AMD760. I wouldn't spend my money on DDR yet, but of course you're not spending my money;)

with pc2100 ddr memomory down to $60 for 128mb it's not really rediculous to go that route. yes it is more expensive but it should provide you with more life expectancy than pc100/133 ram. personally, i've been thinking about going with the asus a7v266 mb (coming out later this month) which will support either type of ram, so i can use the pc100 i've got lying around for now and upgrade to ddr memory down the road and not have to replace the mb.

I'd go with the Asus A7V133. It's an awesome board and has a lot of features. I personally feel it's the best motherboard for the 266FSB TBirds out there. Plus, it's Asus, so you already know you're getting quality. Get memory at Crucial Technology. They are VERY cheap, and they are a sub-business of Micron, which makes some of the best memory in the world. Prices are juuuuuuuuuuuuuuust right right now, so if you've got the dough, stock up! Good luck man.

Speaking of RAM prices... $69.00 256MB PC133 SDRAM @ www.tigerdirect.com (Not sure what brand you will get though... I have seen PNY and Kingston from them)

How do you feel the Asus A7V133 compares with the Abit KT7A-RAID ?
