i think the student understands how foolish his whole arguement appears from start to finish.
he can't argue rationally or intelligently so he resorts to distortion and hapless emotionalism.
sounds like the cretins he's defending. pathetically funny.

What I said . . .
Tillman was not an exceptional NFL talent but he was an exceptional player considering his physical skill. Clearly, he made it on the Cardinals roster and into the starting lineup b/c he brought incredible intangibles every time he suited up.

Your idiotic response . . .
Here you go again! I thought you'd have slunk off back to your cave in shame never to have return but here you go criticizing his career again. How is my reading comprehension bad when you've just confirmed it. Did you know, NFL guru, that the Super Bowl champion St Louis Rams tried to get Tillman to come play for them, but he turned down the 9 million dollar offer? Sounds like a real "Rudy" to me.

Tillman was recruited by Arizona State. No other authority than the head coach himself, Bruce Snyder, said Tillman was the very LAST scholarship offered but I seriously doubt he would trade Tillman for anyone else. Your hyperbole exemplifies your ignorance. One of my college buddies is a 3rd string linebacker. He's made it in the NFL for 8 years b/c he's a freakish physical specimen. If he had some of Tillman's character traits (and a 4.5/40) he would be a Pro-Bowler. There are no "Rudy"s on NFL rosters. Tillman was no slouch. But he's no Jason Sehorn, either. Tillman was a successful NFL football player including one season where he had over 200 tackles.

Snyder on Tillman: 'He had so much potential' But Snyder was NOT talking about football.

ESPN NFL
TEMPE, Ariz. -- Pat Tillman overachieved in football, and just about everything else.
Too slow to be a great safety, too small for an NFL linebacker, he got by on toughness, effort and brains. "Pat represents all that is good with this country, our society and ultimately the human condition in general," said Seattle Seahawks general manager Bob Ferguson, who was GM with the Cardinals when Tillman was drafted.

I largely disagree with what Gonzalez said and how he said it. But if lumping us together helps you survive the day . . . so be it.

Here's what the President of UMASS had to say:

UMass president Jack Wilson issued a statement saying Rene Gonzalez' comments in The Daily Collegian "are a disgusting, arrogant and intellectually immature attack on a human being who died in service to his country."

Well spoken. The statement also proves that at least some sanity still exists in academia.

That guy doesn't really seem to get the fact that it is extremely bad to speak of the dead that way.

You're just completely making yourself out to be a fool and you CLEARLY know nothing about football. CLEARLY. So stop talking about stuff you have NO clue about. Jason Sehorn? I guess you have no shame and don't mind further embarassing yourself.

How about doing some research into some of the other soldiers who died and see what you can dredge up about their lives. That should make you feel like a big man.

Who's Jason Sehorn? Oh wait, you mean Mr. Angie Harmon...

Anyway, who cares if Pat Tillman was a good football player or not. The point is irrelevant. He died in the service of this country and that's all we need to know to honor him. When I read this article, I thought of Jack Nicholson's courtroom tirade in A Few Good Men and thought it would be a very appropriate response. It is deplorable that someone could have written something like this. I know we enjoy the right to freedom of speech, but does that right apply to stupidity as well?

EDIT: for grammar.

Who is Jason Sehorn? He's the guy that made close to $19m from 2000-2002.

Sehorn's exit from the Giants

Admittedly, Sehorn definitely rode a little hype to his best salaries from the Giants but he was also a decent cornerback. Instead of displaying your glaring lack of NFL knowledge why don't we leave it at this . . .

?You don?t find guys that have that combination of being as bright and as tough as him,? Phil Snow, who coached Tillman as Arizona State?s defensive coordinator, said in 2002. ?This guy could go live in a foxhole for a year by himself with no food.?

anecdotal:

my father knew a guy working as a tech at a hospital, call him fred
freds a reservist, just got sent home from iraq, got a great job where hes well liked, good future, gf
he gets a call about some months ago, they say pack up you're going back for duty
my dad see him around depressed, shaken, losing weight because he doesn't eat

hes probably there in iraq now doing his service, but i wonder, what does someone like FRED think of all this about Tillman

plenty of guys here joined up for their beliefs, their country, just like our favorite football star, but unlike them Tillman had tons of money, a dream job for some, and if he had gone off to war and came back, he'd be applauded by those who knew him and he would have gone back to making his money playing his game now with a little more props and a little more respect from his fans. Its win-win for Tillman, worst that could have happened is he'd get killed or maimed effectively ending his career, but he'd still be a hero not just to those he knew but now most of the newsworthy public

what does fred get when (hopefully when) he comes back? probably same bright future, same gf???, likely his friends and family will be proud of him, but to you and me he'll still be some tech working at some hospital

what does he get if hes killed or maimed, grief for his friends and family, and we get a new tech working at the hospital

Truly disgusting.

What's disgusting is the inordinate propertion of posters in this forum who probably agree with that student. I remember BBD actually smearing Tillman's NFL career for some freaking sick reason.

I willing to bet everyone on this forum is against people dying in Iraq.

Pat died in Afghanistan.

I am willing to bet that most people are against people dying in Afghanistan.
