The funny part is that you think it's reasonable to pay 17.24% in the first place.

:laugh::laugh::laugh:

I didn't say 17.24% was reasonable. It was still high, but 29.24% is highway robbery.

Now, this card had a balance of just under 1500 USD. Think it would be a good idea for me to transfer the balance to lower interest card and cut this Chase card up?

Yep, assuming you can get one with a low intro rate for balance transfers I can't see how that wouldn't be better for you. My bank just sent me a offer for a 6 month transfer rate at 3%, the difference between that and 29% is huge. Might be a good time to get your free credit report and make sure no incorrect info has made its way on there.

I throw those offers away because the introductory rate only lasts for 6 months or less. Granted, I'd only need about 5 months to pay off the balance.

I just sent in an online app for the military star card. I know thats got a much lower interest rate than both cards I currently have. Should hear something on that front tomorrow.

If you're eligible for the Star card, just join USAA and get a credit card from them. I have had a USAA Platinum Visa for years that is prime + 0% (currently it's 8.25%). They're the best bank and insurance company in the US IMO.

I'm thankful for people like the OP. If nobody paid 17.24% on their (unnecessary consumption) debt, I would never receive all the wonderful 0% offers in the mail.

Absolutely

+1

Anytime a CC company tries to up my rate I just pay it off or tranfer the balance and close it. They usually backpedal and offer to lower it but I still close it anyway.

There is no good reason to close a credit card. If you want to punish the company, keep it open, purchase a pack of gum once a year and make them send you paper statements each month.

You're right. Closing a credit card can actually hurt your credit score. Just stop using it.

And why is it so hard for people to pay in full every month? Can't afford to? Then don't buy things! I actually don't care what rate is on my card because it's paid off every month.

I'm sure that a lot of CC debt is unnecessary consumption (plasma TV's ect.) but then again some folks don't make enough $ to
cover a large cash need when something expensive breaks (Tranny, AC, etc.) so it gets put on a CC and they get in deep...

Like others have said, your situation is not uncommon. They did that sh!t to me a long time ago, so I basically gave them all the middle finger. I have one CC now and they don't make a dime off interest from me. I have two other cards that I just let sit there. I like having the CC company's manage my 0 activity accounts. :)

chase is one of the most horrible companies i've ever had to do business with. i've had some bad luck with breaks in employment in the past 5 years or so... so i've got 2 credit cards that i've been paying off. and a car payment.

chase's customer service is some of the most horrible, pushy, and flat out rude people i've ever talked with on the phone. couple that with the fact that they're in india and you have a recipe for a wonderful headache. (sorry... but i don't buy that your name is "Bob" with an accent that thick)

on the contrary... my other credit card with my bank and the bank for my car loan are some of the nicest and most helpful people i've had to deal with.

in general... steer clear of Chase. i'm looking into transfering my debt elsewhere. even if the interest rate is the same... i'd rather pay an arm and a leg to someone who has enough common sense to at least ask for my money with a smile.
