I am an idiot. I have the Centurion 5 and now I ordered the Raidmax Smilodon case

Hey guys, a happy conroe user here. I put my system in a Centurion 5 case with a 120MM in the middle 3 5.25" bays so airflow is good. Now I was reading around here and I saw the Raidmax Smilodon case and I ordered it without thinking (Guess my impulsive side kicked in 😱). Well anyways it shipped and the seller says I can refuse shipping and get a refund but I lose the S/H ($27). I can return the Centurion for a full refund though (local shop). Now I was trying to find some reviews and only one review was availabale (3dgameman). Which one do i keep????? Is it worth it to let it go and pay $27 for my idiotic action or keep it and make the best of it. Last point is that if I do have to deny it, $27 is no big deal.

Wait for the case to come. Accept it. Comare the two cases (design, airflow, which you like better, etc). If you like the raidmax more, return the centurion. If you like the centurion more - or if it is a tossup - keep both and use the raidmax for a future build of some sort. Not a bad idea to have a spare case.

I personally wouldn't have bought raidmax in the first place 😉

Well I leave for my studies in a month to Joburg South Africa for 11 months. So I can't have it lying around in my cramped apartment. Another point to factor in that I forgot to mention.

Eh....go with the Raidmax and forget the Centurion. But then again, that's only due to my owning two Raidmax cases and not having hurt myself on any of them. Or had any problems with any of them.

I think the raidmax looks like an awesome case, BTW where did you get it and for how much? I'm trying to find one for <$80. Anyway, the raidmax has 2 12cm fans while the centurion has 1 and another 8cm fan. The raidmax also has a removable side tray and lots of other usefull stuff. I'd keep it.

PS. that was kinda stupid, ordering a case, when you already have one...😛😉

OP,
There is a recent thread here that talks extensively about the smilodon.

I actually saw the case first in that thread. It looked nice, met my criteria plus some more. I could care less for HDD isolation. My apartment is pretty noise itself and so are my surroundings (NY). Also this this has only one 120MM fan. I will return the centurion and install my system in here and I will most likely add a 120MM on the back as well.

I ordered from coolerguys as I was already getting a few things from there.

Pffft... a pity party! Bwahahaha!

Get rid of the Centurion 5 and keep the Smilodon!

This won't be the last mistake you make in life, gamefreakgcb!

Get used to it... 😉

I don't like raidmax's cases. Hell, I don't like Raidmax period. Incredibly unreliable psu's and the cases are very flimsy/crappily built. Just my experience though.

Whatever!

This Raidmax weighs 23 pounds -- twice as much as my $400 Mountain Mods U2-UFO Opti-1203 case -- so, it's NOT "flimsy/crappy", and it doesn't come with a PSU, except as an option!

You might want to reconsider your bias[es] toward Raidmax -- not that it isn't deserved! However, the Smilodon is different! It may very well be the only case they ever make that's worth a crap -- who knows? But, it IS an excellent product -- and evolving! A 12cm exhaust will come next, if they're smart...

I would take it over a Centurion 5 any day -- and that's saying a lot -- considering I'm running a case that's better than 99.9% of the other ppl on this web site! The fact that I'm even looking at Milodons is even more amazing, let alone standing up for them... 😉

raidmax = crap?

heavy doesn't mean its good. my first computer thermaltake crap case weight about 40lbs empty. it was the biggest POS ever. my lian li weights about 15lbs aluminun.

i'd take the centurion over the raidmax, but that isn't saying much since the raidmax is crap

Sorry! Something I learned a LONG time ago -- don't listen to ppl that type in all lower-case letters... 😎

Anybody else?

Well I have generally heard bad things about Raidmax but there have been exceptions, by AT as well. Like one other gaming case ( I think the X1?) which is pretty darn cheap if you've got a Fry's nearby. And this one, the way the motherboard tray opens up is just amazing, I always have something to do and that will cut down on a lot of time since now I wont have to take out all cards. So yeah, I am keeping it and will see how it compared to the centurion which has been the best/easiest case I have worked with to date.

Most Raidmax cases ARE crap, but there are a couple of exceptions: the X1 and the Smilodon - get the ones without PSU as the included PSUs are junk.

I think its all personal preference IMO, I don't really care if it's Raidmax, Antec, Masscool? As long as it holds my mobo and other stuff in there, im cool with it. BTW the Smilodon case looks awesome, I plan to build a system using that case for my young cousin.

wow, that's really mature. thanks for the helpful post!

The front of the Smilodon case can sport a 120mm and you can adapt a Yate Loon 120mm(any 120mm really lol) with the 80mm to 120mm fan adapter, real cheap and easy might just cause a little extra noise.

Sorry! I don't have anything against handicapped ppl -- really!

It's just been my experience that most of the ppl that type in all lower-case letters are... well, you know... kind of sloppy with the truth too. Maybe this guy actually had "a thermaltake crap case that weight [sic] about 40lbs", but it isn't likely!

Okay, fine! You won't let it (ahem) lie...

I noticed your system rig contains caps. Did someone else type that for you, or did you do that holding a joystick in your teeth...

To everyone else: See what I mean?

This is why I don't pay attention to these 'low-case' ppl?

Let this be a lesson to you...
