On Portable Hard Drive (also acts as backup drive):

My Pictures: check
My Music: check
My Videos: check
My Documents: check
SP2 Update (My OS doesn't come with one): check
FF Bookmarks/AVG/Adaware/Spybot/Chatlogs/other small files: check

Now comes the drivers (badically the reason why I made this thread):
Can any of you kind fellows tell me which drivers I need to download in advance so that I can get my freshly formatted computer all set up and fully functional without connecting to internet?

Here is my setup:
Mobo: K8V SE Deluxe
CPU: AMD 64 3200+ @2.0GHz
RAM: 2x512MB Corsair@PC3200
GPU: ATI Radeon 9800 128MB
HDD: WD 40GB EIDE@ 7200RPM

So I need to download the following drivers:
1) GPU from ATI
2) Sound from ASUS
3) Network from ASUS

WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO DL?
Thanks

The mobo chipset drivers. And install them before installing anything else (even before the SP2 update).

Don't waste your time. Make a new Windows XP cd using RyanVM's update packs. Add SP2 first, then add the latest update pack. This way you can avoid all that crap once you get Windows up and running.

And yes, install your motherboard chipset drivers (viaarena.com) before you install anything else (after you get your new install on the desktop). Then video, then sound, then extra crap - reboot every time.

_whatever_ you do, don't let an unpatched system on the web.

Thanks for advice both of you. And yes...themisfit610, I don't want to connect to internet before the system is FULLY patched/set up.
But both of you mentioned these "chipset" drivers. What are those...never heard of it. Never installed it actually...how on earth did my system stay stable for so many years without those.

Anyways. I went to VIA website and they have the following:

http://i22.tinypic.com/169mb6r.gif
------As you can see...there is 2 "packages" available...the 4-in-1 which was released on Oct 2001 and is version 4.43..which was 6 years ago...and a more recent one which was released this year. But the one released this year...I am not sure that's what I need. Do I need 4-in-1 or that "new" one?

And I also went to ASUS website to compare if they have same version...for some strange reason their version differs. Their version is 4.49 and was released in 2003 which you can see here: http://i21.tinypic.com/ne8bog.jpg. I don't understand...how can a company that "makes" these chipset drivers not have the 4.49 versiom?

catalyst drivers 4 your VGA, check asus site for audio, chipset drivers 4 your board. BIOS update wouldn't hurt....AMD processor drivers... VIA4in1 (not sure if they still use this)n hopefully you're all set

Yes AMD processor drivers are for dual core I don't think it applies to single core cpu.
and yes you really need VIA 4 in 1 drivers for network, USB, Video, and audio.
