A terrorist? Really? There are alot of things in my life i'm not sure about, but the one thing I know is that i'm not a god damn terrorist.

If you ever feel the need to prove yourself to someone, don't EVER volunteer to take a polygraph. No matter how truthful you are, they can still fuck you over.

They grade you on a scale of -10 to +10 with +4 being passing and -4 being failing. Anything between -4 and +4 is an undetermined gray area.

I got a +3 on the set of questions regarding my espionage and terrorism activities. Are you kidding me? What a fucking waste of my time. Now I get to drive another 6 hours round trip next week to retake the damn thing.

What really pisses me off is that I had to drive there in a goddamn snow storm on wednesday night, during which I can count at least 4 separate times where I thought I was going to die. Oh, the things I do for my country

No wonder there's no talent in the government. All the smart people leave for industry to make twice as much money for a tenth of the hassle. I'm not too far behind.

It'll probably be worse the second time around since you'll be worrying about your score from the first time.

I don't see the point in polygraphs. I'm sure the rally good double agents already know how to fake their way out of it.

I guess I don't care much either way because I don't have to take one in my line of work.

The talented people who are in the government do it for one reason alone. They do it to serve their country in a different way.

Polygraph examiners can make the tests bend to their will, not to mention that the test itself is barely more accurate than chance. Read the 2003 NAS report on polygraphs, they're horrible.

They aren't worried about double agents. They are worried about people who just aren't honest and may have many skeletons in their closet where someone could blackmail them for secrets.

So when the inevitable security breach happens they have ass coverage. That is the only point, not really all that dissimilar from the rent a cops guarding buildings when you enter.

lol that doesn't prove the fact that polygraphs are next to useless.

what kind of job are you taking the polygraph for ?

i had a interview with DIA once, because i was working on the Comanche
attack helicopter. the guy reminded me of Crabb and Goyle in the Harry
Potter series.

Your frustrations are well justified, but don't think for a second that the commercial industry is easier. They just have different problems that you are not currently dealing with. Many of which are much much more stressful because they revolve around greed and profit. Unless your job involves tons of travel and overtime already, you may want to reconsider those thoughts. Not to mention that the benefits you get from most government jobs are out of this world. Do they offer you an actual pension plan (not 401k)? If so, then that alone is something to heavily consider. If you have a union then that would be another. Changing from one job in the government to another one isn't a bad idea though if you are unhappy.

Polygraphs are about as reliable as voodoo.

It is all about how comfortable or uncomfortable the examiner makes you feel who is giving you the exam. I had some preemployment polygraphs a long time ago. For one job, I passed with flying colors. For another job, with a different examiner, He told me I utterly failed the test, and it was similar questions, even failing it when answering about my name on the control questions! LOL!

The guy that failed me was some excop. He was a complete jerk for the entire test, and made all kinds of comments about how great he was and all the murderers and thieves he helped catch using the polygraph. He made all kinds of sarcastic remarks to me before the test, I think just to make sure I failed it. The first guy that tested me was trained as a psychologist, and was completely laid back and his mellow attitude did not influence my test results negatively. The testers attitude is where the voodoo comes into play.

The scam the guy who failed me was using was: he was getting more business from the grocery store where I was applying at by failing most of the applicants. When I went back to the store and talked to the manager complaining about the polygraphers style, or lack of it, he claimed he had failed 3 cashiers over a shortage in one of the registers one time, and obviously not all the 3 cashiers had stolen the money. But they all got fired. I asked him why he even still used this guy, and he told me it was corporates decision, not his. When I asked him if I could take it again somewhere else even if I paid for it and give him the results, he said no. This examiner had a cash cow on his hands at $50 a pop just by simply failing the majority of applicants this store sent him. Voodoo indeed.

At least you're on someone's list now. It's all for the best that they caught you now before you had a chance to act on your compulsions.
