I am a speaker newb! help me with new Energy C-100 speakers

got my new energy C-100 speakers in today and noticed that they have (2) sets of positive and negative terminals with a set of shorting straps in between.

These will be run on an Onkyo TX-SR505 7.1 channel receiver

my questions are:

1) why are there two positive and two negative inputs? I would assume H and L mean high and low (maybe impedance?)

2) what is the best way to hook them to my receiver (I am using 16 AWG wire)

If the speakers are high-end high power users than maybe. I'd start with them wired in a single set.

yes, I think for my needs, it wont matter. This is a basic home theater setup that will never go above 70 watts max (don't need my neighbors pissed off)

It wont make a difference. The bi-wire posts are there because consumers expect them to be there. They are for the tweeter and the mid-bass drivers respectively. The straps are there to short them together so that the signal from your amplifier reaches both drivers. The internal crossover within the speaker governs what part of said signal reaches said tweeter and said mid-bass drivers. Just make sure you use the straps. If you lose the straps, you can short the posts with a short length of normal speaker cable.

Leave the straps in and use one pair of cables per speaker (i.e. the normal way).

The only reason you'd want to not use the straps is if you had a sub and didn't really want the base drivers on. I'm not sure what type of woofers are in your speakers, but you could do with out a sub and buy a LEF amp and plug it's input into the sub output and then run the wires to the woofers. The picture you had is just a waste of speaker cable, if you only got one amp, you only run one set of speaker cables.

One thing good about the setup if you had a really high end ICE amp or Tube amp (low wattage) you could run that for the tweeters / mid and use a decent sub for music.

I ended up wiring it normally and it sounds wonderful. I realized I will need a subwoofer though to fill in the missing low end. Looking into Dayton Audio subs as per my conversation with YoYo
