By mistake, I set all .exe files to open up in word pad and I have no idea how to reset the computer back to the orginal setting. None of my programs run except for autoruns and using the Run command.

How do I fix it?

Thanks for the help, but the registry was not changed. Is there any other way... the microsoft did not help.

You can try to re-install the service pack for windows. See if that re-associates it.

Not sure if this will work, but....

Open windows explorer>tools>folder options>file types. Under extensions look for exe. If it is listed (which it should not be) you can try unchecking the always use box or even deleting it from associations.

Try at your own risk..........

If BT7990's idea doesn't work, it sounds like it should tho, go to regedit and look at the \HKEY_Classes_Root\.exe the "content type" value data line should be application/x-msdownload
hope that helps.
