That apartment is hardly a mess.
Years ago I worked a summer job painting apartments from where people moved out.
You want to see a mess ? Look at some of them.
Raw chicken on the counters, toilet full of crap, floors covered in waste from pets, trash in closets. It was disgusting.

The people that viewed the apartment may have been like my brothers wife.
She is a neat freak, OCD I think.
If you go in her house and move a vase a few inches, she immediately notices it and moves it back. She will not even go to bed at night without having all the clothes washed and the dishes washed. She vacuums every day, mops the floors every day.

That's not even CLOSE to a mess.

Looking at it, I'd guess that you were a somewhat tidy grad student.

That house was not messy. We have hardwood floors in my house, and they do not shine. period.

We also have 5 kids, so it is rarely without some clutter of sorts somewhere--nothing like stepping on Thomas the Tank Engine or his tracks as you walk to the bathroom in the middle of the night....

I think they'd have a heart attack if they saw my place. I have a lot of clutter everywhere. I don't have food rotting in the livingroom or anything, but I will have a stack of dishes after a few days. Max dish load: 6 big plates, 4 small plates, 6 bowls, and up to 8 glasses - and assorted silverware. During the week, I'm away most of the day, so I do dishes on Friday. During the weekends, or when I'm home all day, such as during this week (no classes), I might do dishes every day, or every other day.

People do this anyway, if they have a dishwasher - the dishes just get stashed away in a place where no one can see them, but there's still a large quantity of dirty dishes there.

An unmade bed? Ever since I was little, I never got the point of making the bed look perfectly neat. I sleep in it! That's the only purpose of the bed. The blankets are insulation. I don't care how they look when I'm sleeping. Besides that, when I'm asleep, the bed's made into a mess anyway. So, no sense in creating order for the sole purpose of creating disorder.

Based on the pics, your apartment is much neater than mine.

Not nearly as bad as this though.

Here is my living room. These are from 2 months ago though, but it looks the same. I'll try to post more later.

I think maybe they were just freaked out that you have the same painting hung over your TV that you do over your couch...

wtf?

They are not the same.

Man that sucks, the company I rent from ALWAYS uses my place as the demo apartment (I get 50 bucks knocked off my rent a month) and they seem to love me and my place sounds far worse than yours (folders and books on my bedroom floor from whatever classes I had that day, a few dishes in the sink at most times, never made bed...ect ect). I guess the expectations are a quite a bit lower from a 20-something male in the nation's #1 party school (according to the princeton review)

are you by any chance in UT austin ?
