I showed my apartment to someone today. My management company called and said that the people who looked at my apartment thought it was messy. why did they think it was messy? I had stuff in the sink (what I used to cook and eat breakfast) and my bed was not completely done. According to the management, that constitutes living like a pig. They said that the persn looking at the apartment was digusted. WTF? The tenant that could be should not even talk. She was a mess herself.

Sorry, I just had to get that off my chest because I rushed back home for this.

Man that sucks, the company I rent from ALWAYS uses my place as the demo apartment (I get 50 bucks knocked off my rent a month) and they seem to love me and my place sounds far worse than yours (folders and books on my bedroom floor from whatever classes I had that day, a few dishes in the sink at most times, never made bed...ect ect). I guess the expectations are a quite a bit lower from a 20-something male in the nation's #1 party school (according to the princeton review)

Sounds like the management company should come and see it themselves. You own the apartment and you're trying to rent it out or sell it?

rent it. I am not gonna be surprised if they withold the deposit from me and state that I ruined the place.

amazing. you should see some of the shitholes I've viewed while checking out apartments in Chicago (my own included :D)

they won't withhold deposit for that. need actual damage to keep your deposit from you

Doesn't look too bad though you have a lot of clutter in a small area.
Are you sure that the apartment didn't stink or smelled bad? That could be a turnoff too.

I was going to post a link to that story someone posted about a year or so ago about the crazy ass roomate who barricaded his door, used his window as a front door and made his room smell bad with poo... but I have no idea where that link is... or how I would go about searching google to find it.

Most places take the 1st and last months rent when you move in just for this reason.

OP's wasn't really that messy (well, the 2 month old pics weren't). I guess we'll have to see the now pics to know for sure.

Why would they care if you're messy anyways. You pay them rent - that kinda makes it yours to do as you please for the period of time you pay for. As long as when you hand it over, it's clean, they can't say squat.

QFT! I only have 2, but dam is this place a mess all the time. I tried to fight it for awhile but finally had to surrender. Now I'm just happy if I can get from the kitchen to the living room without twisting an ankle. :)
