I have a win 98 machine with an isa modem in it that works great. It is networked to my xp machine which has no modem (and no isa slot) through a linksys router connected to my cable modem. I am trying to run a workstation program off of my 98 box which dials out through the modem. When i am on the xp machine it says that it initiallizes the modem and it says dialing but it never dials. Can this be done.

Thanks 😕

I run a program called Meditech on my win98 box. The program dials out and connects to a remote computer. When I try to run this program across my home network from my xp box it won't dial out. Is there a setting somewhere within windows to allow access to a modem on another computer?

You are talking about modem sharing or pooling then.

Since the rise of the Internet, however, those terms are very likely to get confused.
Many Internet proxying programs are also categorized as "modem sharing" programs, although most will NOT properly support direct-dial applications.

You actually need something that will redirect COM port output.

Since you have an internal modem you are pretty much limited to software options.
Most of these offer 30 day demos. Take advantage of that to find a product that is the right fit for you.
