We are talking about Core Duo benchmarks with *NON* laptop based systems, correct? Not to be trite, but I don't take any benchmark on a portable seriously for the same reason I don't take benchmarks seriously made on my Xbox360 :)

I otherwise would trust Child's benchmarks and feel no reason to debate them given they sound sincere and well executed. This contrary to my natural reflex to dispute any claims made on the Apple platform since they always seem to be "25% faster" than what everybody else is using, for no technically tangible reason other than would make Buckaroo Banzai laugh.

All the benchmarks I've seen with Conroe so far would seem to simply be taking advantage of that 4meg L2 on the bigger chip, which we all know games love. You could put 4meg of L2 on anything for crying out loud and it would scream, so I'm waiting for more complex and I/O intensive benchmarks.

In any case, AMD has been becoming a bit arrogant with their pricing, and Conroe would seem to offset that. However, I'm skeptical about motherboard compatibility, and it doesn't change the fact Intel has nothing to compete with AMD right now.

so... you're RimRam in that thread.
What kind of asenine asumption is that?
I said he is Intel's enthusiast. how do you read "no trust" in that sentence?
If you didn?t understand why I eluded to that Let me clarify it. He would have done everything possible to correct any error concerning conroe's winrar test. another word, conroe doing <700 winrar is not a mistake and VW is not cooking it (because he might be AMD biased). Is this clear or do I need to break it down more for you?
Gee, it is hard to believe how people twist the meaning of a sentence.

I think you need to go bye bye.

Honestly Childs, while it's all very cool info, overclocking is very limited in what it tells us about a uA's potential. If you read through all of the various benches that review sites have done with OC, the main thing you come away with is that they all tend to be different. The problem is that when you overclock, you change many more things than just the CPU...and no 2 overclocks are exactly the same.

The conclusion to the benchmark comparison you have isn't "if A=B & B=C then A=C"...it's more like "if A~B and B~C then A=C"...though I have to say that your benches on the iMac are indeed interesting.

not so fast.
XS VW who tested conroe(BTW he is an Intel's enthus) shows that conroe does less than 700mb/s winrar. My A64 Venice @ 2.7ghz does 749mb/s. I think conroe is fast in integer calculations as SPi indicates, but not so fast in other areas. And we wouldn?t know if this aggressive disambiguation of memory that has 3% error probability is
going to cause any alarm or not. SPi is very simple arithmetic calculation and easily predictable by core's branch prediction. When retail version of both Conroe and Socket M2 hit the market and un-bias comparison/reviews such as one by AT is conducted, only then, I believe it. I Do not trust any test coming out of XS Intel's forum.

Dude, have you thought of the thing that Conroe is on a buggy platform that couldn't get 512MB modules and a video card working?? Did you know that Victor was getting lower scores on his Conroe 2.4 than the Merom 2.0 benchmark shown on Computerbase.de??

People posting that Conroe's advantage lies SOLELY to 4MB L2, GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF THE MURKY WATER!!! SuperPI 32M score is 21minutes!!! Which is like the best score out there. FX-60 gets 29 minutes.

Hey Intel dude, then why post such erroneous benches that shows conroe does extremely well vs AMD's extremely poor. He showed AM2's benches that does worst than an underclocked A64 3000.
You know dude, you ought to look at both sides of the coin "Intel dude"
get it dude?

Why post it? Duh... It shows how well Conroe does IN SPITE of the buggy platform.
Are you thinking Conroe will perform "worse" on a platform that has all the bugs worked out? Yeah, you most likely are for some reason unknown to me.
Sheesh. Oh, yeah, "AMD dude"... ;)

It shows performance approximation. Would a CPU perform better if the FSB was upped to reach speed X, versus increasing the multiplier? Sure, but are they in the same ballpark? Yup. Its a close approximation that serves the comparison. If you dont have the exact CPUs, you make the best approximation available with the tools you have. I wouldnt think these numbers would be off by more than 5%, but if someone has the cpus I'm more than happy to pass along the scene files to get it as accurate as possible. This whole thread is speculation, so being off by a bit isnt a bad thing. :p

Lol, I wish, I saw one of those on the road the other day (i think it was the Vanquish), and OMG is that the sweetest thing I have ever heard, urhh YES !!! :D

I?ll be getting a BMW 330CI, with the sport pack in metallic titanium silver. Ohh I cant wait its like being a little kid waiting on Christmas day. Shame i?m not allowed to get a cabriolet version.
