So my friend's parents are putting down money for me to build him a computer as his x-mas gift, and we ordered all the parts already, which compose of:

amd athlon 64 3400+
dfi lanparty
1gb corsair valueram
Albatron 6600gt pci-e
cavalier case w/ window
crt monitor
cordless mx duo
seagate harddrive

and stupid Mik3y just found out that he accidently ordered a PCI-E card!!!!!! I really dont want to spend $40ish of my own money on a stupid mistake if that's avoidable, so i what i could do and emailed newegg if i could possibly exchange that video card for a 9800 pro or something and pay the price differences. I have yet to recieve and email back from them (just emailed them like 10 min ago). All the components were ordered under my friend's account and his parents credit card, and they dont know about the screwup yet. We ordered the package yesterday at noon and they should be expected to arrive at noon tomorrow. since the video card is not opened yet, do you think they will allow me to exchange for a different video card instead of having to pay the restocking fee? the restocking fee is $30ish and i really dont want to pay that much. it's too late to cancel my order, and ya. I need some input on this.

I read another post of a guy screwing up at Monarch and he called the guy and they got his thing right. So if newegg is like monarch or better you should be fine. But I think you should call newegg rather than emailing them, calling will be a lot faster! Anyway keep this in mind: What they don't know won't hurt them 😉

10 minutes to get a response back by email is a little short.

Just call them them. If the card they sent is unopened, I would imagine that they wouldn't charge a restocking fee, but I don't know for sure.

Why go from a 6600 Gt to a ATI 9800 pro? Why not AGP version.

I mean if his parents paid for it and allowed you to order it, what is the big difference in $60.00?

He is your friend and they are his parents, right?

ya, they are his parents and he's my friend. they really dont want to spend more then $200 on a video card, so the next best thing is the 9800 pro. they trust me and etc, but i just didnt want to cause this kind of dumb problem in the first place. i mean, i happened to be able to convince them from getting a dell over a custom made for the same price. i've built a lot of computers for other people, but they got my trust before i asked for it. in this case, i had to convince my friend's parents about it. my friend totally trusts me, but ya, this is his parents money and they were always worried about getting screwed on an order, and that screwup is caused by me.

Don't worry, they'll do it.

If you didn't unpack it and didn't scratch the retail package they'll recognize you made a honest mistake and were not ordering something for testing.

Plus you bought a whole bunch of stuff and it is obvious the card was meant for that system. Personally I think they should print a warning everytime somebody orders one mainboard and one video card and they don't fit, same for mainboard and processor. You can easily catch the most common cases (AGP/PCIe, 775/478, 754/939).

thanks u guys. u guys are great for giving me some hope. there's no point in me calling them since they cant do anyhting about it without my friend's parents credit card, and they are busy asleep. i just hope you're correct about it martin. 🙂
