you should have said something!!

Best Buy employees normally don't take to kindly to directing their customers away from purchasing their merchandise...especially right in front of them (I've heard enough stories about that here on AT).

Tell them to F off. What are they going to do? Give you a hard time? You're a customer. You could stir up something and have them fired...hahah

Sometimes, when you get home after buying a printer and you finally realize it doesn't come with a USB cable, you don't want to wait longer for an online site to ship your cable.

I just checked out Acortech, and aside from being one of the worst designed online stores I've ever seen, the $2 cable costs $6 to ship. What a bargain!

I normally buy them 10 at a time. They used to be $1 a piece for that quantity, now they're up to $1.20.

You get free shipping on everything with the code "PRICEWATCH" and they ship UBER fast.

Yep pretty much. I think the only ones that don't work on the ones made by Kathy Lee's sweat shop kids on their off-shifts

Just wait til, heaven forbid, you have to work retail. You'll hate all those wanna-be-know-it-all customers that make you lose sales. Anyways, I usually don't open my mouth unless they ask me for advice.

I work p/t in retail and if it is sold elsewhere for cheaper I normally tell the customer. However, we do pricematches as well, so I tell the customer to go to customer service to honor the other store's prices

ouch, when i was a CSM that would get you fired in no time

I'm not on commission so I could care less. I follow the companies customer service oriented philosophy.

You know I was wondering...we ATOT should all get yellow t-shirts and on the back imprint the yellow best buy logo...BUT instead of putting "Best Buy" we should change it to "WORST BUY." Imagine yourself walking into the store...lol

In theory the USB 2.0 (highspeed) stuff should be better (more twists per inch, more shielding, etc), but, not that much so that a $25 or $40 cable is going to make much difference. As NFS4 said, the $1 cables he gets are USB 2.0 spec'd as well. If you go with a longer cable length, 10'-15'-25' then you may start seeing some differences between cheap and good. I have a 15' USB 1.1 cable that I bought way back somewhere cheap (first USB Cable I bought) and it caused a bunch of problems, replaced it with another cable and it's fine. That was the only bad cable with USB I've had.

IIRC, B&M stores make their money on those add-on items, the rest of the stuff is minimal markup so that's why they try and push it on you at the register. Such is life and time is money, for that customer $25 for a cable may have saved him a lot more, who knows, not our business.

I'll second the sams deal. those are nice, heavy duty cables too.

BB made up for it though, they sold me a 300GB seagate for $90 AR and a 1GB jumpdrive for 52 AR. that's fine by me. I usually mention it when someone nearby is really getting fleeced though, I've been asked to leave only once.

you may also run into:

FWIW - For What Its Worth
FWIU - From What I Understand
AFAIK - As Far As I Know

and some others that arent based on not as nice of words.

Man screw them. You're just giving advice to another customer and there is nothing wrong with that.

The funny thing is, if you were the customer getting fleeced, and some other customer, sounding intelligent and educated on the topic at hand chimmed in, and then the BB rep got all up in arms and tried to have you escorted out, would you still feel comfortable buying from there? Its win win... screw BB

The only thing that 'pwns' me is my impatience.

Four-five years ago I bought a printer, and didn't realize that it didn't come with a usb cable. I had a staples coupon so I went to staples to get a usb cable. With that coupon it was incredibly cheap and the cable still works.

1) Need cable
2) Have staples coupon
3) ...
4) PROFIT!

part, not depart. See, If the fool AND his money both departed, he'd still have it, where if the part, instead of departing, then he doesn't have it, and thats the point.

Damn it's a good program~
