Ok I was in here the other day totally confused but with great help got almost everything working,
I have a desktop computer running Win ME and i have a cable modem installed and I have a laptop running win98se, I networked the 2 computers together by by installing ather nic card in the desktop and running a crossover cable from the nic card to a nic card i have installed in my laptop,then I ran windows networking wizard on both machines,after that i am able to share files,but I can't get on the internet with my laptop,I'm sorry but i'm not sure what else i should say to help you figure out what is wrong but any help would be great

ok i did install ics and i also tried analogx and still no internet on my laptop,i can share files with no problems just can't surf the web,ithere something i need to enable?

Some wild shots in the dark here - try Netmeeting ??? You aren't by any chance using NetBeui instead of TCP/IP? Double check your protocols and network settings, and try deleting all cards, etc., and reinstalling with the most current drivers. Also, can you ping the ISP from the laptop?

not sure how to ping,i uninstall all card drivers...in my control panal i have netbui and tcp/ip my my network setting

As in getting the IP from you ISP? No, DCHP will automatically assign you an IP, a subnet mask and a gateway plus some other stuff.

Personally I feel that you should set static IP #'s on your home network, that way you won't have to fool with DHCP.

well i pingged my desktop fin and i can't ping my laptop says unknown what does this mean besides that i don't have internet access?
