I don't think the idea was implemented well in this case, but I could certainly see situations where adding a small-ish sub to system still crossed over to a "real sub" could be appropriate.

1) Is a little box with two 8 inch woofers and a 2700 watt amp really capable of moving as much air as my 1400 watt/15 inch Velodyne? You'd better believe it, and more.

2) Is there a better home theater sub available on the market? I really don't think so. This thing was so clean, powerful, and with such a steep low pass filter, it would be my pick of subs today. I haven't even talked about how small (albeit kinda heavy at around 40 lbs) it is, making it easy as pie to move around to experiment with positioning! You could place it in one location for music, then in another for theater (accuracy Vs. raw power).

I have owned many subs. I find the smaller the sub, the faster it will fire... Better it is with certain types of music... I had an ACI Quake till it bit the dust then thought that the bigger the deeper it would go and bought a JBL with a sunfire 1K watt amp. Sounded good for HT but sucked wind for music. I will never buy a 15" again ... I'll probably pick up a JR when I'm ready to buy again...

For those that say a 8" sucks well, it really depends who makes them.

Subs with smaller woofers can be very impressive. With better design, they can put out some solid bass. And they are usually tighter, because of the smaller woofer.

Where they usually fall short, though, is in the deep bass. I haven't heard the sub linked above, but I have heard more than one brand of smaller subs, including several versions of the Definitive Supercube. I have yet to hear one that clearly reproduces the really low end like a 12 or 15 inch will do.

So though I haven't heard that particular sub, I am skeptical that it is the best home theater sub on the market. I suspect it is actually a better musical sub, and less of a home theater sub, because it probably struggles with frequencies below 40hz.
