so, i originally had a treo, but ot crapped out. so, i took it to sprint and told them about the problem and they couldn't fix it, so they gave me a palm centro to replace it because i had insurance.

well, i really wanted an iphone-ish phone, so i bought a new samsung instinct on craigslist for $200. i loved it at first, then it started to be a piece of shit. so, i finally decided to go back to my centro, even though there were some really awesome features on the instinct i'd just have to learn to live without (the search option and the gps nav is sooo handy).

i realized my phone was a little broken (the silent switch at the top was broken and the speaker wasn't loud enough), so i took it to sprint and asked them to fix it. as they tried, i messed around with other phones and came across the palm 800w and saw that it had the features i loved about the treo/centro and the sweet features i loved about the instinct. the sprint guy said that they couldn't fix my phone, so i ended talking them into giving me the 800w.

it's soooo goddamn nice and easy to use :) i'm happy. i actually made this thread on my phone.

Phone'd.

It's ok until it wants to connect to the network at random times and kill your battery.

Mine has a mind of its own when it comes to accessing the sprint network. I can set it down for a couple of hours, without using the phone or doing any sort of surfing and come back later to a nearly dead battery with an active connection open. I purposely disabled the email function to see if that was the issue. It's not.
Sprint replaced the phone, and the new one doesn't have an email account yet. It still wants to connect. Once it does, I have to MAKE it disconnect.

Other than that, it's a decent phone.

I don't have that problem at all. I set mine so it doesn't automatically look for a network. the only reason my battery drains so quickly is because I browse the internet constantly throughout the day on here :)

it's pretty good... i bought another battery on ebay for cheap just in case.

something i came to find out about this phone... it doesn't allow you to picturemail. you can receive, but not sent. i'm looking for 3rd-party software or something to allow me to. according to sprint, there's some archaic way of doing it through emailing, but it's really annoying.

Go to the sprint software site. they have a picturemail program they released fairly recently.

I've had mine since launch this past July and it's being swapped next week for a BlackBerry 8330 (Curve).

The WM6 OS is fantastic....but buggy. Random slowdowns/freezes and battery-pull resets are the primary reason I'm getting rid of it. You literally have to close every application with the task manager as soon as you're finished using them (email or IE) or the battery life dies within a few hours. The keyboard and screen are terrific, along with the impressive bundled software suite. Make sure to download/try "SkyFire" if you haven't already.

I use my phone for calls primarily. Next on the list is for email/txt, and lastly for entertainment. If this order was reversed, I would probably stick with a WM device. I need a dependable, power friendly PDA phone for the email/calendar functionality (3 members of IT staff for 1200+ PC's) but sometimes I miss the simple utility in a clam-shell phone.

You need to hit up PPCGeeks and grab their workaround there.

Update: Got the 8330, couldn't be happier. Don't miss the touch screen at all, and everything seems more intuitive on the curve. I also *love* the push email feature (instead of having my device poll/check every few minutes)....much better for the battery like that. I've used it very heavily all day today (about 2hrs of voice and tons of data/txt/mail) and I'm still at 43% from a full charge last night.

Hope you're still enjoying your Treo...but if you ever get tired of it, give the curve a shot.

just cant get over that the BB service is an additional $30. if only sprint could go the gsm route and let us use BB phones without needing the service...

i heard the blackberry bold is coming to sprint in may 09?

It's only an additional $30 for people on the old SERO stuff (which is no longer). My wife is also on the old SERO, and any WM or Palm OS device gets the bundled data plan with 500 min as you obviously know. That was a fluke that really shouldn't have gained as much attention as it had....and the BlackBerry (BIS / BES) prices are an oddity of something that really shouldn't have been as public as it became. It's a perfectly justifiable data price package from anyone looking into it with current offers/specials.

I'm just as spoiled as you knowing that SERO value for only $30 monthly, which is why my wife sticks with her Palm Centro and my job covers my BB/Sprint expenses.
