I'm very happy with my Elantra. Almost 8 months old and no problems so far. I'd highly recommend it.
 
The Sonata is pretty good, especially with a V-6. But compare it with a Honda Accord, I still like the Accord better.
 
No, especially since my company is supplying components to the new plant in Alabama for both the Sonata and Santa Fee.
 
I went out on Saturday and took a test drive and I really wasn't all that impressed.

I took out a GLS V6 with a moonroof (I was looking for a LX) so it had most of the options and it drove fine but it felt cheap, I can't say what in particular felt cheap but something intangible was missing. I fully expected it to feel better than my 2000 Accord EX V6 but it seemed to be missing a level of refinement.

I might take a look at the Mazda 3.

If you buy one used, I don't think the 100k warranty transfers - read that it's only good for the original owner.

I think your right , that must be a big contributory factor to the poor resale value.
