I believe that Hyundais are considered good cars in India :D at least that's what people who went there recently told me!

Yeah, a REAL Toyota Corrola (latest model) is almost considered a luxury car in India. I went there in January and all the diplomats and ex-pats or anyone with money either drove a Corolla, diesel E-class, underpowered C-class, new Honda Accord (they get the North American one, not the smaller one) or some European car which I can't remember the marque but it shares the same platform as VW Passat.

Surprisingly, the V6 Sonata is actually a smooth ride. I was pleasantly surprised after driving one.

I'm rather surprised at the King of Value dissing Hyundai

If it wasn't for Car Co's like Hyundai, Nissan etc, there wouldn't be a car less than $50,000 thanks to the likes of GM, Ford and Chysler. That's the real Thumbs Down

I'm not "dissing" Hyundai, if I were in the market for an entry level car I'd buy a 2004 Hyundai Elantra GLS auto for $10,800.

Ok maybe I am dissing Hyundai, but still ...

my buddy has a sonata in india, its a pretty good car given what is available and for th cost in India

We have camry's and accords (2004) as well but they are really really expensive,

a 2004 camry costs almost 40,000 dollars, which is ridiculous

In that case I'd probably go with the Hyundai Sonata.

hyundai's do well in India...they're considered great cars there. Reliable and cheap...thats all you need in a third world country.

Keep in mind when you ram into a bullock cart you don't want to have to pay to repair a 40k toyota...easier to just repair a 10k hyundai :)

and believe me, you will hit a buffalo, bullock cart, auto rickshaw, or ambassador (old school brit tank of a car), if you drive there long enough.

You mean the Skoda Octavia... VW-owned Czech company
And I had a long arguement with my cousin when I went to India last Dec. about what he thought was a Toyota Camry, but I thought the label said Toyota Corolla.

And YES, the Hyundai Sonata is pretty popular.

It wasn't that hard to "spot" the Sonata, as it was onscreen for a good couple of shots ;)

But yes, it was a Sonata, and as people have pointed out, the selection and availability of cars over there is drastically different.

I will agree with you there. I had a rental car (Sonata) for 3 days. Interior and exterior looks pretty nice. My complaints about them, though, is that they are underpowered even for a V6 and the feul economy is not so great. I'm so use to driving an Accord, so that's where I'm basing my comparison to.
