Johnny is twelve and Jenny is eleven, and they know they're
in love. They decide they should get married, so Johnny
goes to Jenny's father: "Mr. Morris, me and Jenny are in
love and I want to ask you for her hand in marriage."
Thinking that Johnny's request is too cute for words, Mr.
Morris asks, "Well Johnny, you are only twelve. Where will
you two live?"
Johnny replies, "We thought about that, Mr. Morris. In
Jenny's room. It's bigger than mine and we can both fit
there nicely."
Mr. Morris is tickled. He asks, "Okay then how will you
live? You're not old enough to get a job. You'll need to
support Jenny."
Johnny doesn't miss a beat, "Our allowance. Jenny gets ten
dollars a week and I get twelve dollars a week. Between us,
that's almost ninety dollars a month and we think we can get
by on that."
Mr. Morris tries to come up with a question that Johnny
won't have anticipated. A moment later, Mr. Morris smiles,
"Johnny, it seems like you've got everything all figured
out. I just have one more question. What will you do if
you and Jenny have little ones of your own?"
Johnny shrugs his shoulders and says "Well, sir, we've been
lucky so far..."
